My Dad recently moved to an assisted living home. He needs a new tv, and I want to get one between 20 and 30 inches, atsc tuner, preferable 1080i but not necessary, his eyes aren't what they used to be. Might be a good thing if it had inputs for use as a monitor as well. He probably won't be using it in a year or so. I looked at some at Costco the other day but was in a hurry and could not spend much time. Anyone got some input? Thanks!

If that's the case, any name brand LCD should work. Heck, maybe you can find a plasma for a blowout price.

Bet you could save some $$ if you checked Craigslist. I just did a quick scan on our local CL and I saw 20-30" tube TVs for $20-150. Hell, if your dad would see a bigger screen better & has room for it, there are 40"+ flatscreens for a couple hundred bucks.

Exactly. Get something bigger but lower rez. Resolution won't matter.

Go to Costco. They blow out Panny and Vizio LCD's for a couple hundred bucks. I'm sure you'll find what you need.

I'll think about that one since I'm likely to be using it in a year as a computer monitor.

I get the "go bigger/low-res" comments, but as somebody who helped move my grandfather a few times in his last few years, I'd say having a boob-tube you can easily carry under one arm would be worth something, too - for jkruger's sake. Yeah, you can get bigger sets for $100 or $200 on craigslist, and in some ways they're a bargain; but, you have to move the SOB's, and will you have room for it in the assisted living facility, and what will you do with it in a year or two?

OTOH... 32" LCD's - especially the 2nd-tier brands - have gotten super cheap. You can pick up a new Proscan 32" for $330 from Costco... That's 768p (fine for dad) w/Costco's 2-year warranty, and two HDMI inputs. It would make a nice bedroom set or whatever when dad doesn't need it anymore (as opposed to some big set you have to toss or donate because nobody wants them).

There's my thoughts.

Might not be enough room for a 32". I don't think they will let me wall mount it.
