I tried to resoldier it again yesterday evening!

I heated the complete Chip on my Gas Burner (put a little bit of whater on it to gues the temperature) and soldier a few pins and did the procedure again. The solderings are still a little bit "cold" but the PJ runs finer than before!

Scroll down, I bought a couple of these from here years ago and they were legitimate and cheap.

Do you have an idea how to test the new STK? Now i can compare with the stock STK. When the convergence is stable it might be ok?

What STK is more important, the STK in the Focus board or in the convergence board? I've got the idea to change.

The convergence one is the one with a history of failure, personally, I can't recall a focus one failing...

Sorry mabe i'd chosen the wrong word's in my Question:

I think i will get a "fake" STK, at lest some chip with less performance than the original chips from the 90s.
There are 4 STK chips in the PJ, and i think not all are generating waveforms with the same degree of "stress" for the STK.
So i'd like swap the STK which is bored to the convergence Board and the "fake" STK to the "boring" position.

Hi there

In that second photo, the output of both fans are aimed at the same airspace. That will raise the static pressure that each fan "sees", and reduce the airflow produced by each fan.

Re-aiming that Accelero fan 180 degress from its current position or toward the nearest PJ side would be better.

Regards

I know, the problem was the orientation of the screws. Because the STK's are just above the heatsink.
I think it's enought to run the AC Fan @ 6V so the static pressure after the heatsink is very low.
It was hard to manage a good contact between the Fan and the bottom plate.

Next step is that i install another two Fans on the top Powersuply. It seems not very professional i know.

Yesterday i noticed a mask on the tubes ;-( I hope it is not visible to much.

If you pull that power supply out you'll find factory cut holes designed to hold fans for it in the back panel. I don't know why NEC chose to leave the fans out...

Revox,

How did this turn out for you?? Are you still running an NEC and if so, is it quiet and reliable?

Ha! I was just about to resurrect this thread and found you'd beat me to it Ben.

Here's some interesting tests on 120mm fans http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cooling/2009/09/28/what-s-the-best-case-fan/1

The PJ works very fine but i keep my 8500 and have sold the Nec.
All in all the noise Mod has cost me 35€ with a lot of work.
The Fan in the Front of the PJ might be "toy" mabe it helps keeping the optics at a constant Temperature.

I just realized this modified Marquee with questionable belly fans is also the one making strange "puffing boises" and shutting down with H-fail light.

https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=18506.html

i'm sure it's just a coincidence Surprised

Oh no, its like searching the failure of your electric cooker at the gas pipe ;-P
I had some problems with HV-flashovers since i got the PJ. And now i mannaged it with isolating the anode caps again.
So there is no coincidence at all, neither a interference!
