edited.

I have 2 708's, one is a working really late model unit made in Dec 2003 that is tagged "BD 708 ECC PFC" (never seen this suffix before on a 708, any idea what it means?) that has 999hrs and the gold-plated BNCs. The other works but is a parts machine since the blue CRT cracked in shipping, which is a shame since it was nice.

I want to get the thing working good to give to my brother since it's in perfect condition, the only issue with it was the focus was "hunting" and it turned out that the pin connector on the focus block was cracked off and intermittently touching. Since I have a parts machine here I can just swap out the quad rather than dig up a pin to crimp on in the meantime..

This newer 708 has a R763583 Quad. The old 708 from April '01 has a R7622091. I'm familiar with the compatibility issues on other Barcos so I don't want to just swap them; are these interchangeable? Or should I just dig up the 10 cent pin? (easier, but not as fun since I can't fix it right away!)

Searching the new quad part number produced only one post:

Are you sure? that's for the latest version of the Cine7 or later, I've never seen that part number in a 708..

..that was from '06, any new insight?

The other thing I noticed was that the new 708 only has one fan in the PS tray, the other hole is empty. Is there any good reason to add it in while I have it open or is it favorable to leave it original?

Barco carried on making the D708 for certain simulation projects and probably still could

The PFC (power factor correction) was a European enforcement to automatically switch and to prevent the usual bang happening when swapping between 110/240 volts.

It could also be this was a replacement power supply because you won't be able to buy a new, old type.

Fans came and went on the 708 series almost like it was down to how many the tech had in the box at the time they were building the projector.
