|
|
Just curious as to the capabilities of stacking two Zenith Pro1200Xs. Would they be able to go side by side or would they have to go over/under?
Is there any reason (other than personal preferrence) not to stack with this model?
Thanks!

You need the COG cards, which I have.
Why not do it?
I've never done it with them, I know the COG is somewhat limited, but I'd think you could do it.

Mike has me curious about doing a stack! I have a picture in the hipower screen thread and it would need to be over
under. As most of you know I have a 159" hipower screen and am extremely happy with the results.
I am trying to grasp the task at hand about the project as I have never tackled a project ot this magnitude
All advice is appreciated and is it really worth it. What do I gain besides foot lamberts is the question! Is 2
better than 1 is the question?
Thanks Greg

As I understand it, the major benefit is on/off contrast. You basically drastically increase your brightness but your blacks remain black. So, what were once subtle details in movies you have previously viewed, are now very distinct and the 3D effect goes through the roof. If you've ever been to Cliff's, then you know what I am talking about. In Dark Knight when they are transporting the mayor(?) and have to go underground.............MAN! The on/off was incredible and the scene just jumped out at you even though it was realatively dark!!!!!!!!!! It takes a while to adjust back to my single projector after every visit to Cliff's. There's a short period of depression but it does eventually pass!

I thought that as well, but with HD10L lenses and a 74" screen it fits in my room. I can't remember the throw of the 8" being so different than the throw of the 9".

Greg, the BG808 I delivered to you for your friend has a COG card in it.

Greg,
I think the over under positioning is the easiest to accomplish. Where the real challenge, in the electronic convergence controls, is when doing a side by side. Some of the machines don't have enough range or type of adjustment to pull it off. One of the GURUs should chime in her soon. Hopefully, Craig R. will read this thread. He should know. Or Nashou knows a great deal as well. Oh yeah, there's also some guy named Curt that might be able to shed some light.

For side by side you need to have top and bottom keystone, if not its impossible to do a side by side, with the marquee ultras you can, not sure about the Zenith
if it has that control. But top bottom is easy, I had one ceiling and one floor, for you if you could build a rack to put them both in it be best to get them as close together as possible.

Ok COG is the same as the service menu convergence for green in a marquee I assume. So when stacking you first need to get both Green grids perfect before you do anything else with red and blue. And no two Pj's are alike , even the same make and model when it come to exact geometry being displayed from a the same source. you could tun on one PJ and converge it so the edges are perfct to the screen edges, turn it off and do the other one the same , but when you turn them both on the grids are not lined up. this is where you need COG to get both greens perfect, or to straighten out a stray grid line where the other geometry controls wont help. so you need both to have it or at least one and use the one without COG as the base green grid.

Thanks for the info! if only 1 card is needed it clarify's my install. As long as I have total control over the green convergence it will work! If I lower my shelf a foot and mount the other one upside down so it sits right on top of the first The cog card replaces which one in the Zenith 1200x and can a COG out of a Barco graphichs non s work? Almost have this worked out!

Two would be ideal but i think you can get away with one but with out some compromises. What you'll have to do is set up both PJ's on the screen and A/B the greens grid with out the COG card in ( not sure how the barcos work with or with out it or if its even need for the one to work). Now pic the one that has the straightest and best geometry green grid. This will be the base Pj and now you install the COG into the other PJ and use that cards abilities to adjust the greens grid lines to match the base Pj's grid. At least this is how I would do it if i did not have complete control of both green grids. Now I have no experience with the barcos so if you run into a problem where even with the extra control of the COG you still cant get the grids to match then you might need the second COG card to adjust that Pj also. so good luck with what you have so far.

my experience of stacking suggests that you need horizontal linearity board for at least one of the projectors
without it you will go out of range with cog
