This post has turned into a comedy fest. I'm assuming that any one of you who has posted a comment on this thread obviously had the curiousity to see what the others thought about sitting under a crt. Sitting under one of Nashou's crt's wouldn't be so bad if one them fell on you, eh!! Be a pretty soft landing.

Hope its ok to tag this question onto this topic as it is partly related.

Does the plastic housing on anyone else's projector make a loud cracking noise when expanding /contracting due to warming /cooling.

Mine does and it frightens the hell outta me as I think its detached itself from the ceiling joists and is about to land on my head.

I was engrossed in watching a documentary on 9/11 when I heard this almighty *CRACK* and leapt off the sofa across the lounge in one single Matrix style motion through the air glancing back over my shoulder, heart pounding, praying I'd cleared enough distance from the assumed falling PJ only to discover it was a false alarm.

Its the second time this week this sound has given me a near heart attack, the first incident I'd fallen asleep on the sofa awoken by the sound and "judo rolled" off.

Turning me into a nervous wreak.

Check this out,

Last night I was watching the Excorcist and about 20 minutes into the movie, I heard a cracking sound coming out of the projector, thought it was going to detach itself from the ceiling and fall on me. Then about 5 minutes later, I heard another cracking sound coming from a baseboard in the room. I figured it has to be expanding from the dryness. This time of year up here, it has not rained for about 12 days now, so I figure it's got to be that. Sometimes in the winter, it does it too. It could also be the wooden beams in the ceiling are drying out and the weight of the pg making them shift abit and produce that cracking sound. Just make sure the pg is well secured. Or maybe it needs an Excorcism.....

I guess I could try an excorcism on it along with all the faults I'm trying to remove...

I don't suppose anyone knows what causes a blue halo to appear around intense whites (credit text) at mid-high contrast? I currently keep it under 30 to reduce this problem. Focus on all 3 guns is pretty sharp and clear.

Blue is normally defocused to avoid overdriving the blue tube and causing a "blue hump" in the midranges -- see e.g. this post.

This isn't usually visible in normal video images, but it can result in a bit of blue "fuzz" around white titles on a black background.

Thanks for that useful info Gary, I'll try that defocus this evening when the lounge is dark enough. All good stuff.

I think I DO need to perform an excorcism on my Barco. I've been leaving it on standby and on two occasions now its switched itself on.

Don't suppose anyone has any ideas as to why it would wakeup from standby?

The electricity is ok, not as though there's been a power cut. Perhaps the cable tv box crashing/resetting might strobe the video signal into waking it up?! Confused

Maybe I should have Father Merrin and Father Damien Karras look at it.
