|
|
I bought a open-box Drpaper screen, which was made around 1997, on Ebay. It is a Shadow Clarion fix-frame screen. The seller doesn't know what surface it is, but he told me that it is very smooth, not rough like a glass bead screen. So I guess it is the old version of M1300 surface. When I got it, I found it is a little yellowish. Is this normal?
Thanks,
SYC

I don't know if its 'normal', but is it yellow-ish in direct sunlight or under a florescent light vs. it being yellow-ish in front of the projector? Maybe its a vinyl screen turning yellow.

I just opened the package for checking, so it is yellowish under a florescent light and see it by some angles. It is smooth, so I guess it should not be high-gain surface, is it right? To be yellowish is not a big problem for me. What I do care is if it is a standard gain surface.

I too bought a Draper Clarion screen on eBay a while back. The seller didn't know for sure if it was M1300 or M2500.
So I recently sent an inquiry to Draper, asking how to tell the difference and here is the response I got:
Gary,
The M1300 fabric is a white material that will very closely resemble the color of plain white paper. The M2500 has a slight "gold" or " beige" tint to the fabric. The old M2500 fabric had a coating that would rub off when cleaned. You can tell if you have this type by touching the fabric with your finger, then see what looks like glitter on your finger. If this does not happen after testing a couple of times, then you have the newer M2500 fabric which can be cleaned. The best cleaning method is to dilute Simple Green® with water to a 50 / 50 mix. Use a cotton cloth or sponge.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
David French
Draper, Inc
So it would sound like you got M2500 based on your observation that it is "yellow" and Draper's description of "gold or beige".
I too have decided that mine is M2500.

FYI, the 1.3 gain Da-Lite screens are yellowish too.

It sounds like mine is newer M2500 because it looks "beige". But in fact, it looks darker than my old Da-lite glass-beaded screen and was made in 1997. It should not be newer M2500, isn't it?

The glass beaded screens are VERY white - I have one for sale if anyone would like to try it.

The guy from Draper did not indicate at what time they changed the formulation. Just go to www.draper.com and find the "Contact Us" section and send them a note - be sure to let us know what you hear back.

I wrote two e-mails to Draper and got no response as usual, so we can't get the answer.

the Draper Cineperm screens with M1300 fabric are not Yellow, they are a nice bright white, I have owned 2 of them
Draper M1300 is the king of CRT fabrics IMHO, unless of course you can spring for Stewart or you need lots of gain
Henry and CRTProjectors.co.uk loves and recommends the M1300 and says it is the best in their opinion
Draper changed to the new M2500 I am thinking around 2002 to 2003 or so, not sure on that, there is a thread in the AVS archive that tells, good luck finding it

Many thanks to everybody. So mine is not supposed to be M2500. I am just wondering why the seller bought a low gain screen for his low-output Sharp XV-S95U, which I owned before and bought a glass-beaded screen for it. It is strange, so I suspect it is M2500. But till the end, I will find the answer sooner because I bid on another screen which is surely M1300 for my friend.
