With my HTPC I have a LUT modifying program that gets me excelent results dialling in my gamma and grey scale. I'm running a 2.5 gamma but have some black crush.

I've read the remedy is to run a lower gamma (1-1.5) from black up to about 20IRE then gradually increase the gamma through the mid IRE range to the target. The term used was 'S' gamma curve.

How is that done? If I put in a target gamma there are luminance values to aim for. If I run a gamma of 1 up to 20IRE The luminance will be above the target for gamma 2.5. Do I just add in the offset for every point beyond 20IRE?
