I've finally installed the 3 used tubes that I got from Curt. I can't believe they work. (newbie, never done anything like that before). After browsing/searching through the forums, I've decided I'm going to purchase Graham Johnson's DVD, but for now, can someone help me with a tip or judgement call?

Anyway, I'm using the tube replacement instructions:
http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/BarcoGraphics808s_CRTReplacementProcedure.pdf

I'm at the point where I've installed the tubes, and I'm focussing and aligning them. At the bottom of page 13, last step in the flow diagram, it's telling me to set the midpoint focus to 57 and the contrast to 80. No problem there. Then it says to move the focus unit slowly forward or backward to achieve the best focus in the center of the screen. For the red and blue tubes, this seemed pretty obvious and easy. But for the green tube, when I had the focus unit at the point where I could clearly see each individual dash in the internal crosshatch grid, the lines seem to smear to the right. So, I'm not sure if I should ignore the smearing and go with the best focus otherwise, or go with the best focus before it smears.

Does that make sense? Does it give you enough information? Thank you in advance.

You will also need to adjust the astig magnets, that's all.

Wow, that was fast. Thanks Mark.

So, to be clear, you are saying that I should ignore the smearing, and just go with the point where the dashes are crisp and clear, right?

Nope.

I'm saying you will have to go further, and learn to set the astig magnets along with the focus coil position, and electronic focus.

From memory, there are instructions in the barco manuals/download section.

Ignore smearing at this point and adjust magnets like described in last page.

Thank you to all. Those tips helped. I was able to find a good position for the focus block, and then adjusting the magnets took care of the smearing.
