Have a read at these sections:

For now, take the component out of the BR player and connect to the R G and B inputs of the Barco and select the component input. you can get the Fury, but at 1080i I'm not sure how much difference you'll see between the component output and the HDMI.

if I get the fury then I can connect HDMI. Just for the sake of upgradeability, I think I want to get the fury. i am wiring in wall so I'd rather run HDMI cable now than component. just means when I upgrade down the road, I'll be all set

which fury do I get?

Unless you have a 701MM or a late model 708, it doesn't have the capability to accept a 1080p signal as 701's and 701s's only scan to 50kHz, and 1080p/60 has a horizontal scanning frequency of 67kHz.

Also, if your model can accept it, you should also consider that your projector is only an ES focus projector and thus not really well suited for 1080p display. Virtually any EM focus machine can focus well enough to look good using 1080p, but *most* ES focus machines will not look as good using 1080p as they would using 1080i.

You don't need any special devices to use 1080i from a BD player, just a cable to go from the component outputs to the RGB inputs of your projector, as has already been stated in a previous post in this thread...

ok thanks. after some consideration I'm going to buy the fury not so much for the projector but because I want to have an upgrade path in the future. I have the drywall off in my house and will run HDMI cable behind the wall.so it makes sense to me that rather than run component now, run HDMI in anticipation of a later upgrade

I am not sure you can just run HDMI to the projector and install the hd fury there. The hdmi signal may not travel that far without a boost.

You may need to put the hdfury at your bd player, and run a long analogue cable to the projector. A long VGA to 5BNC cable is required, but is not too expensive.

You may need a cable driver to send the analogue output from hd fury over a long distance, in fact at 720p or 1080i it probably is a must, as the signal degrades over distance, and this degredation is greater ithe higher the resoultion you use.

You may also consider using a gamma boost. Most people agree this is a must for CRT projectors, it allows you to see all the dark details. Without gamma boost most pictures look too dark, and when you adjust brightness to correct this the blacks turn into greys and the pis looks "washed out"

The box 1040 will be ideal for you together with the fury. This will allow you to go connect as follows:

PS3 or BD player hdmi out > hdfury > box 1040 > long vga-5bnc cable > projector

You also have the option of connecting another device into the component input of the box 1040 to allow auto-switching between different sources. Also, this set-up will allow you to simply add a hdmi switcher before the hdfury in future if you want to add more devices.

Invest in a long vga-5bnc cable for now and install that. See if you can run a duct from the projector to wherever your bd player or ps3 will be for future wiring upgrades. I don't see the value in running a long hdmi cable to the projector yet.

Check out the box 1040 here:

https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=10987.html

It gives a good explanation of why you need gamma boost

Hope to have helped.
I have a Barco 701s myself and the pic is great at 1080i, I can give you detailed instructions on how to set it up, calculate throw distance etc if you want.

If you want the most out of your B7, then yes get an HDFury, with the GammaX, or preferably with some of the other boxes that let you tweak both the gamma and video timings. The HDFury2 is more for the console rather than the pj.

You'll notice a different in PQ going through the HDFury instead of component, especially being able to tweak the gamma curve.
