Guys!

Gunny has a new tv show on Friday nights on The History Channel, telling the stories how different classes of battle weapons were developed over the years; machine guns, tanks etc. Ermey fires or drives many of the pieces himself. His gruff nature can be hysterically funny as well. Highly recommended. Don't miss the show!

The dead know only one thing: it is better to be alive.

How would one know if they're dead? Or do you believe in the after life and looking down on your own dead body?

So, Ron, you should be qualified to answer this - I've seen some of his shows, and can't figure out if he's a massive poser or just a crazy dude. From the perspective of a military guy, is he a real military guy who's being genuine, or an actor putting on a drill sergeant show for all the rubes?

He is the real deal...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._Lee_Ermey

Early life and military career

Born in Emporia, Kansas, Ermey enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1961, after being arrested several times as a teenager.[citation needed] A court judge gave him the choice of the military or jail.[citation needed] He later joked that the Marine Corps "put a screeching halt to my unconventional manner."[citation needed] He spent two years as a drill instructor at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California, and Parris Island, South Carolina from 1965 to 1967. In 1968, Ermey arrived in Vietnam where he served for 14 months with the Marine Wing Support Group 17. He then served two tours of duty in Okinawa, Japan, during which he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) and was medically retired in 1972 for several injuries incurred during his tours. On May 17, 2002 he received an honorary promotion to Gunnery Sergeant (E-7) from Marine Corps Commandant James L. Jones in recognition of his role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartmann in the film Full Metal Jacket.

Oh... and getting an honorary Promotion for General Jones is a big deal.. General Jones is a badass also...

Posers are not tolerated in the Marine Corps.. You should here the things that happen when posers are found walking the streets...

Oh and if you guys really like the style of R. Lee Ermy.

He has plenty of real life inspiration to pull from...

General Mattis is another Marine in a long tradition of badass's... And given his current rank and position... I'd bet this Marine is a real pain in Obama's azz...

"no better friend, no worse enemy",

On February 1, 2005, Lieutenant General Mattis, speaking Ad libitum at a forum in San Diego, said "You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil. You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them. Actually, it's a lot of fun to fight. You know, it's a hell of a hoot. It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right upfront with you, I like brawling."

I come in peace, I didn't bring artillery. But I am pleading with you with tears in my eyes: If you f*ck with me, I'll kill you all.

Marine General James Mattis, to Iraqi tribal leaders

Oh and for ya'll that don't understand...

This is also General Mattis..

"Don't get upset when a family lies to you about one of its members committing a crime, those at the Marine meeting advised... "This is not an attempt to cover up, it is an attempt to save the honor of the family. They know he did it. They just don't want to lose face. This is fine, you know the truth, let the family keep its honor intact." In an even more extraordinary conclusion, the Marine meeting called for an almost deferential approach to searching Iraqi houses. "If you knock at the door for a 'cordon and knock', try not to look directly into the house when the door opens. If searching, be careful. Do not destroy possessions and furniture," and ask the leader of the household to open rooms and cupboards.Nor should that man be dishonored before his family. "If something is found, do not throw the man of the house to the ground in front of his family," the meeting advised. "Give him some honor. Tell him he needs to explain to his wife and children that he is coming with you.""

I caught a little bit of this show and it seemed interesting.

I love Hartman. I remember seeing the movie and thinking "Screw joining the Marine Corps." A year later and what is my stupid a$$ doing? Yep, playing in the swamps of Paris Island.Smile FYI, that isn't Parris Island in the movie.
