Hey you guys.

I just had my hvps replaced and at the same time got my hd mods upgraded though draganm.
But I have a new problem. As soon as I turned the crt on i went on to do the convergence, and for some reason I see a the squares shaking a bit every 5 or 10 seconds. When I put the movie on you dont notice it to much but its there if you are aware of the problem.
One other major thing I didnt have before is I noticed a green line in the middle of the screen. At first I though one my kids had taken a green crayon and drawn a line on my screen but its not. What the heck is it? And please dont say its a burn in.
Appreciate any help!

Moby

Do you have a signal inputted to the set while converging? You need a live signal for the set to lock to the input signal.

THe line is called banding, there's a good thread on it here:

Can you take a pic of the green Line?

If the Grid is shaking every few seconds it could be a timing issue, the sync timings should be longer than 1us. whats your source?

just got this e-mail this morning from Moby

Quote:

Hi Dragan!

I just put it togehter yesterday night. And I double checked everything. The picture looks great I can see a huge difference, there is one problem though, the picture is shaking a little almost vibrating every 6-7 seconds do you have any clue?

Moby
so it looks like there is an issue, hopefully we can get it solved quickly. I didn't see any of these problems when I tested the boards here so it could just be something like a board not being seated in it's socket all the way. Check the Horizontal board, make sure it's in all the way.Sometimes when the rear cage mounting screw is tightened the board can shift to one side because the hole is slotted.

It depends on which way its shaking. Up/down, left/right or both. Also with the test grid up is the entire grid moving or just parts of it?

another question that comes to mind is did you run the marquee with the new HVPS before sending me your modules? Early on I had a guy who replaced both at the same time and had problems, turned out to be the new HVPS in that case. Not saying it's the issue here but just trying to cover all possibility's. An unstable image can easilly be HVPS related too.

Heres a picture of the green line I was talking about. This is bothering me the most. Its flat in the middle of the screen. I watched disastermovie last night, and truely it was a disaster both the movie and the experience. Couldnt take my eyes of the green line.
Another thing i noticed is that the picture is not filling the entire screen from the top and bottom as it did before it got upgraded. I had all the setup done through a professionel so im a bit of a dork at this. At what menu exactly do i adjust that problem.

I took the horizontal board and checked it . Its right where it suppose to be.
But as you mentioned with the HVPS. I had my hvps replaced and at the same time i got my hd mods upgraded.

Can you see any lines on the tube face without the pj on? If so I'm afraid to say it looks like deflection burn.

Hmm. Just checked and yeah. I took a flashlight and i can see the line in the red tube. crap. I cant understand how this is possible. The tubes have run less than 1500 hours and the problem wasnt there until I switched to an upgrade and had my hvps replaced. im getting really anoyed of this whole ting

I'm very, very sorry to hear this and can understand your frustration. Is it just the red tube? If so this isn't so bad as it's the cheapest and easiest tube to source.I'm sure Curt or Drangan has a gazillion of these for a decent price.
I would however source the issue which caused this before you start replacing tubes.

I can only see the line on the red tube. The excact same line is on the screen. Its just that im not a pro at this and ive spend almost 4 years of savings on my home cinema and its frustating that I cant enjoy my homecinema without huge expenses all the time. I wouldnt have the first clue what the source of the problem is and how to replace the tube. ive had pros install the whole thing for me and im getting tired of this crap. Last time I had a guy from another country to come and fix it for me because people in denmark arent qualified enough, at least none i have gotten a hold of.
A few pictures of my bedroom/homecinema

No I dont know Jari! I had thomas or (TBX) to come from sweeden the last time and he did an awesome job. Let me check up on it after I hear from dragnm on the redtube.
Any idea what the source could be for the burnin. I thought burnins only occured if you paused a picture for a long time while the projector was on!

The burn you're referring to is image burn which happens( as you stated) after leaving a static image on screen for a long period of time.
This is spot/deflection burn i.e beam has collapsed into a small concentrated area leaving the line you see.
I don't know what has caused this ( not familiar with Marquees) but I'm sure the geeks/guru's here will undoubtedly has some info as to the cause.

I would closely examine all three tubes before going any further. For that line to be the shade of green shown would mean the lack of blue along with red in the same area. If it were me, I'd pull the lenses and do a real good inspection of all the tube faces.

what do you normally do in that situation. clean them or what? any idea what could have caused it in the beginning? i have not had a static picture on so i cant imagine the burnin caused by that!

lets backtrack a little, what happened with the old HVPS, why did you replace it?
It's really bad news with your red tube as a deflection burn like that is not repairable. IT is burned permanently into the tube. I don't know how or why that could have happened but I can say that I did run all those modules here and none of the tubes in my test machine did that. a few possible causes

1) a problem with the spot kill circuitry on the video neck board.
or
2) putting the G2 bias pin in the wrong location on the tube
or
3) Possibly a problem with the G2 circuit from the HVPS?
