Hi,
I was about to put together a long message with what I've done and the result I've had but the bottom line is that if there is anyone out there who has done a full calibration on the Samsung HL-S6187w DLP TV.......I'd like their advice.
I found my way into the service menu and I can navigate around but there are Soooooo many setting that I feel I need to make sure I'm adjusting the right thing before I really muck things up.
I have the eye one display lt meter and am using the ColorHCFR software.

Hi,
I see that a number of people have looked at this but I've gotten no replies. Probably because I didn't ask anything specific....so I'll try again.
I've tried to go through the grayscale calibration using eye one display LT, ColorHCFR software and the DVD essentials BluRay. Attached are my before and after files.
In both, the Luminance and Gamma are way out. The Delta e (except for 0 level) look pretty good after adjustment. When I watch the demo material on the DVD........I think it looks better after the adjustment.
The problem is........I have no idea if I'm adjusting the right things. Initially I need to adjust contrast and brightness down. Then I do the RGB high and low end and......the contract and brightness are way high again. I think that I may be fighting some automatic, dynamic adjustment features of the set.
There a gazillion possible adjustments in the Service Menu and I am not sure that what I think I need to do and what I really need to do are in sync.
I start by selecting "custom" in the main menu "Picture Mode". I use the contrast and Brightness controls in this mode to adjust "Y". Then I go into the service menu, select DNie and adjust WB_Red_B_Coeff and WB_Blu_B_Coeff for RGBLowEnd and
WB_Red_C_Coeff and WB_Blu_C_Coeff for RGBHighEnd. (I found these setting on the web somewhere as the right ones for RGB high and low)
-Does it matter what "Picture Mode" I am in?
-Should I select warm, cool or normal?
-Do any of the features need to be turned of (noise reduction, DNie etc)?
-Do I adjust Brightness and contract in the main menu like I've been doing or is there something in the Service Menu that I should be working with instead?
-Do my Luminance and Gamma results point to anything in particular?
Now that I have documented my abysmal ignorance.............can anyone help?

You send me a private message why nobody was replying to your questions and/or if your posts were clear.
My thoughts:
You ask numerous questions that span the spectrum of how calibration works. Trying to answering all these could easily take a long long time. You mention that there lot of controls and you have no idea if you're adjusting the right things - that's a really open ended question which nobody is probably ready to get into answering as you're basically asking "how do I calibrate this display?".
You also have extremely specific questions for your exact display type/model. The odds of someone having the same display and knowing what controls you're referring to is pretty slim.
You're using the free ColorHCFR software so unfortunately you're at the mercy of what you know and the free help that others can provide. There's really no help in ColorHCFR to walk you through these things. My "Greyscale & Color Calibration Guide" is an attempt to hold people's hands when doing a calibration but I can't help people with general questions or specific questions about their display as I don't own every display in the world (nor do I have time to help out given that the guide is 100% free).
To get the support you need you may have to go to something like ChromaPure. See: www.curtpalme.com/ChromaPure.shtm
This way you pay for a product and you support you can use if you have specific questions. ChromaPure is also a lot more interactive with more 'hand holding' to explain what you're doing and how to do it.

I calibrated mine about 2 1/2 years ago with the Spyder 2, HCFR software, and the GetGray calibration disk (available on AVSforum for $25) and posted my n00bie process at the AVSforum. Here's the links.
Use the service menu color system manipulations in my guide, in conjunction with the CurtPalme indepth instructions for using HCFR on this website. I did get a fantastic (!!!!) calibration with a near perfect greyscale and CIE near perfect as can be achieved with the HLS! It looked fantastic... The HLS has since died and was replaced by an HLT model under warranty.
Here is the link:
