|
|
Hi,
So my NEC 9PG+ had been performing perfectly for the past 6 months since I repaired my deflection board but I just had another failure.
At first the image distorted then returned to normal. It shortly deconverges before returning to normal. Then the image loses "squareness." Edges change position and size becomes trapezoidal before again returning to normal. Then the image shifts about a foot to the right about a foot before returning back to normal and holding steady. The projector's error LED display was switching between 00 and F3.
I looked up the F3 and was told that it is a "Point PWB communications error". Am I safe in assuming that this means that my point board has failed? I plan on reseating the board but I'm wondering if it safe to run the projector without the board? I'm thinking that if the projector runs (albeit slightly deconverged) without the board than that would prove that the board has failed.
So my questions at this point are: Does this sound like the point board failed? Can the projector run without the point board in order to narrow down the problem? Is there anything else I can do?
I will say that the room that the projector is in has been about 90 degrees recently. It has been very hot in FL and I try to not turn the AC.
Thanks for any and all help in advance!

Disable the point board in the menu (setting? options? info? I forget).
And remove it.
See if the problem goes away.
Yes, a PG will run fine without a point board.

I have a similar problem here with a plain PG. The pix goes small intermittently, like a parallelogram, the fans change speed, then the set shuts off with an F8 error message. I changed the C board (F8 error) 4 times at the customer's house before I replaced it with an XG at a reduced price for him.
I will work on the PG soon, like in the next week, and will post what I find. Try what Mark says, that's the first step. I'd also try running your set with the F and C boards disconnected.

Thanks for the replies so far.
Here is an update for you guys.
Reseating the four cards didn't solve the problem. I was unable to disable the point card in the options menu as I couldn't pull up any of the menus at all with the remote. At this point I turned off and unplugged the projector before removing the point card. Once I turned the projector on without the point card I was unable to get any image (even with an impute) or menu but the projector was no longer showing an error code.
Is this enough to confirm that it is the point card or should I take further steps like removing the F and C boards? Thanks again,
-Grog

Umm what do you mean?
There was no image and no menus at all? Or you don't know how to use the menus/remote?

Are the batteries in the remote any good?
Who set the PJ up, are you within specifications for adjustments?
Try using a contact cleaner on the pins, follow the directions on the can.

There are is no image or menus at all. It is as if the batteries in the remote are dead but I changed them and the on/off buttons are working fine.
