Is it possible?
I have an xbox 360 doing nothing and am eager to game on the crt however,I'm trying to get my head around the easiest/cheapest way to pull this off.
Is it possible to rip an ISO of the game and playback on the p.c or am I pushing sh*t uphill with this.
The only thing I can think of is getting a Component to RGB transcoder (200 odd dollars) but thought I''d ask the geeks here as the best way to do this.

Chris' advice is good and that is definitely the route you should take; just to confirm though, you can forget about playing 360 games on your PC any time soon. Emulation generally requires around a 10x power advantage for the emulating computer over the emulated device. This is borne out in reality - playing emulated N64 games, for example, my 3Ghz CPU usually runs about 30% utilization - or 1000Mhz. The N64 has a 93Mhz processor, so 10x would be 933Mhz.
Emulation of the original xbox is not even playable at all yet, and the console was released in 2001! Not to mention a powerful computer is needed, the xbox 1 has a 733Mhz CPU demanding around 7-8Ghz processing power.
The xbox 360 has a triple core 3.2Ghz CPU - 9.6Ghz of processing power. Assuming perfect emulation code is already written, let me know when you come across a 96GHz CPU

That's all true, Ben... I'd just point out that, in theory you wouldn't have to emulate an original Xbox CPU, since it was already an x86 (Pentium) architecture. You'd need to emulate the hardware/firmware, but not the CPU itself. It would be more like running a simple virtual machine, and would require very little overhead. I'm surprised it hasn't been done already, actually.

This is true, but the fact that emulation dev has been going on for years and years with no playable games tells me there must be a monkey wrench somewhere. The other day I read an article about somebody's work on an emulator, they were able to load up several games and navigate menus, maybe even play a little bit with busted graphics and it was called "awesome progress". I wouldn't expect xbox 1 games any time soon
The 360 on the other hand is an IBM PPC processor, so forget it...by the time we have machines powerful enough, nobody will have written the code because nobody will care, even if such a powerful processor were available it would cost more than the game system and a nice TV

Since were on this subject, I'm curious about something. Its my understanding that most 360 games can also be purchased on PC disc to play on a PC. So although the actual Xbox disc wont play in a PC, the same game can be purchased on a PC disc and played on a PC.
Question is.....whats the difference in the game? Speed? Graphics? Or what?

It's just like a port for a game/program between different operating systems and/or processor platforms. For games that are 360 exclusive like Halo 3, a PC version will be released many many years later, if ever. For games that are cross platform on the consoles (360, PS3, sometimes Wii), a lot of times they are released on the PC as well. In theory PC games have better graphics because cutting edge hardware is always advancing, but even though the 360 / PS3 are now a few years old, I find it hard to believe that many computers out there today are going to top 10Ghz worth of dedicated gaming hardware. Perhaps the newest quad core i7's plus a nasty video card are faster, but I don't really see the point.

Yay! A $2500 machine for superior gaming to what those silly $300-400 boxes are capable of! Sounds AWESOME to me.

I dont get it either. I've read some guys saying they'd spend 4 to 6 grand for a PC to emulate 360 and PS3 games.
The damn consoles and games dont cost half that!!!!!!!!!

Console + $3000 - $5000 flatscreen or projector > uberPC

I know the consoles are less flexible with the variety of controllers, graphics cards, memory, screen resolutions... and they're not upgradable... But, for me, that's exactly what's so great about them. You push the power button, put a disc in and play a game. There aren't a dozen different drivers to download and keep updated (BIOS, network, video, SATA, optical, audio, etc...), video card settings to dick with, video issues like tearing or stuttering, incompatibilities... the list goes on. They just work. Well, assuming you don't have a RRoD.
I have to park my ass in front of a computer for 9-12 hours a day already... If I'm gonna play a game, it's going to in a recliner in front of my big screen. Yeah, I know I could play games on the computer connected to the projector... But, that defeats the purpose going into the theater in the first place: fun and relaxation.
It's not gaming, but rather simulation... But, I do have to admit I'd love to do a two-computer setup of X-Plane in the theater, though... A desktop with a decent graphics card driving the external environment on the big screen, and then a laptop with the flight controls and instrument panel in my lap. That would kick ass. The only thing that's been holding me back is spending the $250 on a good throttle/yolk/stick/pedals set.

Better solution: Play PC games instead of that dumbed-down console crap!

OK got the cable.
Hooked it all up and started playing Mass Effect for about half an hour, got nausious and have had a headache for the rest of the day. I'll try tomb raider underworld and if the same result will stick to the plasma, gaming however,is awesome on the CRT.

haha, nice. to be honest, I've been working on pc's so long now, I can't stand playing games on them. Always something wrong. Not to mention, to install 3 or 4 games takes up so much space and usually something doesn't work right. one game will play but another wigs out with xyz graphics driver. when I want to game I put the disc in and go. Nothing to update, nothing to upgrade it just works!
I'm using the same vga cable mentioned and running 720p right now. I've done 1080i but didn't like it as much. plenty of fabulous games on the 360 to keep you busyh!
