My Dwin blacked out last night while watching a movie and the green led just flashes. When i unplugged and tried to power on it made a screech like noise and a flash of light under the blue tube near the front left side. I bummed because this projector has a great picture and the tubes are at 500 hours. Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thanks.

That's actually good news right now. Pull out the power supply and send it to me. A common problem with DWIN, and as long as hte motherboard hasn't been damaged due to the arcing, it's isolated to the power supply. I'll repair it and will test it in a set here for 24 hours before I send back.

Here's how to send it in:

Figure $150-200 incl return shipping.

Curt,

Do you have a picture of where the poer supply is located or is it the area behind the power outlet? Thanks.

Probably right where it plugs in.

same thing happened to mine *except* the arching took out the mother board. Bottom line is that Curt fixed it and it is running fine.

Sweet, good to hear, and thanks! I'm getting pretty good with repairing the DWINs.

Yesterday I installed two 8500s to replace two very aging Sony 10XX series in a planetarium. I changed everything from 480i to 480p via a line doubler for their DVD player and to 1024 X 768 for their computer display. They LOVED it.

They were on a really limited budget, otherwise I would have suggested a BR player with a Fury, but they had to stick with what they had, and rarely use the DVD player anyways. THey did say they were gonna do staff movie nights though after hours. Smile

I was messing with output resolutions with my dvdo vp30 and 480p looks good with blu ray. I am going to try out the transcanner 2 and see how it compares with the vp30. I have the correct distance set up but when i set up putput on vp30 i seem to be only using about half the tube size.
