Oh, this is in my top 5 favorite movies ever. It really deserves a good Blu Ray transfer. I believe it was one of the first DVD releases and looked really bad until a remastered edition a few years ago that cleaned it up a bit.

The book's a lot better. While I enjoyed the movie (because I love all things related to the topic) it's not actually that great of a movie IMHO.

I'd still get it on Blu-ray if it was available.

Kal, I am sure everyone on this board would find a handful of agreeable Blu-ray titles that shouldn't have ever been put on Blu-ray. I am also sure this wouldn't be on that list.

Right you are.

I'm sure it'll be out on Blu-ray eventually. They can't release everything at once. Even if they could that would be buisiness suicide. Nobody can afford to buy all the movies at once. They need to bleed the public slowly, not kill them off at once. Smile

Sure, you can't release everything at once, but there is this little thing called priorities and some of the junk coming out now on BD, or already out, is simply atrocious in comparison. For instance, who on here is admitting to their girly parts and buying St. Elmo's Fire? Razz

But the current adoption rate is the whole reason why the first stuff out is crappy. It's all done to optimize profit for the companies doing this. You don't put out Star Wars on Blu-ray right out of the gate as nobody has a blu-ray player yet. And stuff that's already out never seems as interesting as new items released...

Yes, Star Wars is popular and yes it would help sell the format but marketing has likely shown that the order they're doing things in today is the most profitable.

Then there's the issue of whether a title's actually READY to be out on Blu-ray. Many need to be remastered, new content created, menuing systems created, etc.

How exactly does spending time, money, and resources putting St. Elmo's Fire on BD with the unlikelihood of anyone buying make sense?
