What's more interesting is Gary started to threaten me...AGAIN on the post, saying I'm the con man. Then when I called his bluff via PM, he spewed a bunch of crap that he knows nothing about.

Oh, and of course he sent the moderators my PM.

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I haven't thrown a punch since grade 7, but I'd sure like to meet Gary one day. Wink

Maybe that is why it got closed. I would love to be able to retrieve the thread. If not, then get the thread starter to post over here.

I've invited him over. Just curious, is that Denon the end all be all SD DVD player? Can't find one on eBay, so I guess they are kinda rare.

Wow. I guess I got really really lucky. I had a set of Marquee HD-10L lenses for sale. Gary inquired about them. I offerd to either 1) sell them to him, or 2) trade them towards adding an HD-SDI video output on my Toshiba HD-XA2. He quoted me a price for the HD-SDI mod, but it was more than I wanted to spend. We agreed on my selling the lenses to him, subject to a reasonable shipping charge. I boxed them up and got a realy good price quote on shipping them from the USPS. I went ahead and shipped them, before Gary paid me. I knew I was taking a risk.

I shipped them on Saturday. He received them on Monday or Tuesday. (I know he received them becuase he thanked my in an AVS thread for the lenses. He had already installed them.) I PM'd Gary on Saturday that I shipped them. He PM'd back he would pay me right away. Saturday goes by. No money. Sunday goes by. No money. Monday goes by. No money. I PM Gary asking where the money is. He PM's me he is having major trouble with his Paypal account. And on top of that, his Great Grandfather just died, so he's been very busy with the funeral. He also tells me I will have the money on Tuesday. Tuesday goes by. No money. Wedensday goes by. No money. On Thursday, I PM Gary a polite, but firm PM, reminding him I shipped the lenses at my own risk, and asked him if i made a mistake by trusting him. The money was deposited in my Paypal account on either Friday, or Saturday. I guess I got really really lucky, especially since I did not send him my Toshiba HD-XA2 for the HD-SDI mod.

Whew!!!

William

PS: All of this just happened in the last 3 weeks or so.

Kal,
Did you know that he has a link to this website on his link page? If you and Curt want to disassociate yourselves from him, then you might want to ask him to remove the link. I do find it interesting that he doesn't have a link to the website that he does reviews for. Also, I think Curt should be banned from the forum for a week for giving Gary two thumbs up or at least give away five free pjs.Very Happy

Yep - he's had those links forever. I can't stop someone from linking to us. We're linked from 100's of places.

Probably won't work because you had me ban him the second time and this time it was an IP ban.

I think Curt meant he invited the Denon owner, not Gary.

Holy Kal, how could you misread that? Hahaha!

I did mean inviting the Denon owner over. I've had interesting PMs with Gary, and to prevent anything untoward happen, I emailed Alan Gouger. Everything is fine, Alan doesn't want the drama on the board over there. It's all good...except for the Denon owner. Sad

Wow, thanks Alan. So, no criticism what so ever. If Alan wanted to keep the drama to a minimum, then all he has to do is let just Gary and the OP discuss it in the thread. Now, only the few who saw the thread will be educated. If I was the OP, then I might bring AVS into any legal proceedings that take place just to shake them up.

William,
I don't think you dodged a bullet with getting paid. Now, if you would have traded him for the SDI mod, then you may have had a hard time. I hear Gary is a pretty good shot. Wink

Kinda hard to miss shooting your own foot especially when it's in your mouth ! And the mods at AVS are a bunch of bitchy little girls ...

Alan seems to be one of the good guys but I could care less about the forums over there.

At least you are allowed have an opinion over here and not get deleted...

Doh! Embarassed Of course! That makes perfect sense. My excuse: I was dead tired last night (spent all day building a tree fort with my son) and had a couple of beers in me. Smile

Would be good to get the Denon owner to post over here...

This thread is starting to have one of those "slow down and look at the car accident" feels to it. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

My 2 cents. I've dealt with him 3 times.

1st. Bought SDI cable from his ebay store. Cable took a little longer to get to me than should be normal I would think. But it arrived. It was of decent quality.

2nd I bought a set of VR lenses for my G70 from dipshit, I mean Gary, when he listed them on Videogon. Ever since the cable purchase I started following posts about the manboy from Kentucky and I knew there was a risk involved, but damn I wanted those lenses. So I rolled the dice and paid my monies. Then the usual email exchanges of blah blah blah delay, blah blah blah more delay occurred but the lenses eventually came . They were pretty well packed. There was a scratch on one of the lenses that he "failed to mention" but it didn't freak me out too much and didn't affect the picture in a way that was obvious to me. (Other than being a frigging scratch on a lense). To be honest I was just glad I didn't get burned. And the image was definitely improved. I know I know I shouldn't play with fire but it's so fun sometimes.

And then 3rd.......I let Gary quasi sell me on some vp50 video mod that would allow you to output hdmi inputs over the component without bypassing video processing. I told him I really couldn't send him my VP50 (see I'm not a total moron, just part) and he told me he would send me the kit with instructions on how to do it myself. He sent the instructions via email and I decided it was in my skillset to solder this chip on so I sent him the money. It was a few hundred, I really don't recall....then the weeks went by. No kit, no Email...more time...weeks then I started getting the oh the this and the that and my suppliers etc etc etc after about three months of waiting I asked for my money back he eventually refunded my money, but Jesus Christ what a complete and utter pain in the ass to deal with.

Gary sucks. Anybody got any pictures of this assclown so we can put an assclown face to an assclown name?

Following that train wreck was too funny...I figure he did so many "high performance" mods to that machine that even in paperweight form he would claim it throws a better image than stock Laughing

Maybe I'm in the minority but my dealings with Gary have always been good. I have purchased a few things from him and bought even more on his recommendation. He has always been very helpful to me. I'm pretty easy to get along with in general and I feel like I am a pretty good judge of character. I don't know Gary other than in our dealings here and at AVS but all I can say is he has always been polite and responsive. I hate to hear about the bad experiences you guys had though.

Thanks Huggy, I edited the first post. I only wish I could cache Curt's comments into the thread.Smile

I read some of those posts. It looks like a couple of people are upset. I didn't read enough to see the time frame, but it looks like they were giving him a month. He did state this in an email:
Quote:
hello

Mark, feel free to post this if you want:

1)did you guys see this Meridian thread where I did a powerbuy for the DVDO Edge scaler earlier this year including orders from all over the entire world and the units were all received and everyone is happy as a clam?

http://www.meridianunplugged.com/ubbthread...881&fpart=1

2)my ebay feedback is high enough positive percentage to be a powerseller(not easy to do) and I was one up until early this year, my gear just has no interest whatever anymore on ebay

3)did you guys know I was a official reviewer for the HTF and I am trusted with 10s of thousands of $'s worth of equipment at a time, trusted to receive, treat it well and return all properly

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thre...-blu-ray-player

4)does everyone know that I am a early closed door beta tester for Oppo and have had the units for over 9 months now and that I know and speak to Jin Pi(top dog) at Oppo

it seems people are only looking for negative and you can find that with anyone out there that does business, it is impossible to not have a few problems here and there

It looks like there is a good business in modding players especially for someone without any real knowledge. Wink

Curt,
I don't remember you saying anything about the quality of work. Has anyone else looked inside his players to see how good the work is?
