I have a Vidikron Vision II, also known as the Electrohome Marquee 8500. I had an HDM with some corroded resistors, which I replaced. First time firing up, got picture! Second time, no picture . . . and never since. I get the H. FAIL light after it has been on for awhile. I recently purchased another HDM in the hopes that was the problem, however the new HDM might be damaged, but I get the same exact results from the projector.

What happens when it turns on is an electrical wine starts out low and quickly rises to a high pitch, then dissipates back down to a low whine. That, and the H. Fail light are the only things I have to go on at this point. Any ideas?

HV arc somewhere from a tube or the main Hv lead, that probably took out the HDM and possibly your new one.

How do I determine it was an HV arc? Would an HV arc cause the H. Fail light? Is there a way to fix this?

The only way to see it well is with the cover off and in a darkened room, you'll see a blue/green flash. And if it arced to the HDM then you could have damaged it, and that is probably how the old one was damaged. also with the PJ off look closely at the red HV cables for any cracks or pinhole's in the jacket. Also do your HV cables also have the Clear
cover, or are they just the individual red insulation. The ones that have the Clear insulation also don't arc to the boards as much.

I would watch the belly fans as they start up and see if it correlates to the whine.
If you have corroded resistors you may have corroded bearings in the fans.
If a couple of the fans aren't working, it could shut down. (not sue if u would get H fail)
