I purchased a used HDM and had it shipped to me, however the box was pretty beat up and two of the plastic tubes that have coils on them were broken. The coils are intact it seems, but the plastic tubes are broken. Would this affect the HDM and how it functions?

well it would make the coils impossible to adjust for correct raster widths. When someone is parting out a PJ it's best to send the HDM inside it's metal cage, it's what I do for my marquee HD mod's and it insures the HDM is undamaged.
I would use some 2-part epoxy and secure the coils down with a rubber band or something while the glue cures.

One thing you can also do is use some Super Glue on the out side while holding the part in its correct place, make sure no glue seeps into the ferrite core. then after this is done get a large heat shrink tube that fits around the coil and heat it up till it is nice and tight around the coil. leave enough room from the top so it doesnt block the ferrite adjustment core.

Thanks for the great suggestions on how to fix the coils, I didn't know they could be glued!

Even in their current state however, should the HDM provide a picture if used in the projector? I'm currently getting no picture, and an H. Fail - trying to rule out the HDM as the culprit.

In the meantime, I will find some glue and get to work. ; )
