I've noticed my XG doesn't have the fan pictured here above the green tube

There is an empty header on the board for it too. Where is it blowing air and do I need to put a new fan there?

I've been having heat problems. With all the plastic housing/panels on, after a little while the image shrinks in from the left and convergence gets slightly knocked off for red. With all the plastic panels off, the pj is fine but the noise is more audible to the seats below.

That fan does nothing.

I don't have it fitted either. I don't know why they added it.

Add some extraction above your XG in the ceiling - that'll help.

I used to have the same shrinkage from the left problem and fixed it by replacing the H-Def board (the one with the big heatsink on the hinged plate over the back of the CRTs). I figured it was easier to pay $75 for the board on fleabay than to troubleshoot it down the the component.
