Pin 6 and 7 are basically just floating pins, i think they help if there is any arching in the tube, but not sure.
On my one 8500 pin 7 is not even there on the tubes!!

Easy enough......drill out Pin 6 and hook up G2. If the DVB's are ever a problem and I need to go back to DMBs the VNBs will still work since pins 6 & 7 basically floating. Nice!

The replacement tubes have arrived. The only question I have is concerning the grounding on the DVB. The DVB's I have are from a Barco and the grounding is slightly different. It has the spring/wire setup around the bell housing. I cut off the old ground lead and soldered the two on from the old DMB Marquee tube to the wire around the bell housing. Is this acceptable or do I need to use copper tape around the housing like the Marquee setup? Thanks.

Thanks for the the quick reply Athanasios. I thought about and went with a hybrid method. I pulled the spring, attached the tape, reattached the spring, and then soldered it all together. I don't see why a little extra grounding would hurt anything. I'll let you know how it works.

I carefully peel off the copper tape and hold it to the new tube with duct tape. That seems to work well.
Cheers!

I did this as well with all of my Thomas tubes because they had no ground straps when I got them. It works like a champ.

Ok. The everything seemed to go ok. No problems with the grounding. Thanks for the tips guys....appreciated!!! The blue tube booted up with no problems. I then replaced the red.
Then the moment of truth........POWER ON!!!! Nothing!!!!! No HV!!!!! I checked everything and I cant' figure out what the hell happened. My HV has simply disappeared!!! I pulled the supply and then put it back it. I pulled the supply and opened it up to check the fuse and that's ok. No error lights either! It appears I'm running out of luck. I just can't believe this is happening. Any suggestions of where to look next?

Ok....did some research and and swapped in a red test tube and the PJ fired right up. The HV is supply is fine. Something with the new tube is causing an HV failure.
Sorry I jumped the gun there guys without doing a little research and testing for myself. Back to testing.

I aligned the deflection yokes and neutralized the astig magnets. I turned off the machine to start putting it back together and once again no HV upon restart. I reseated the VNB multiple times and swapped the red VNB with the blue twice to no avail. Would an iffy HV lead cause a HV dropout? I still think it's something with the way the VNB is sitting on the pins. Something just doesn't seem right. If I can't get the red DMV to work I'm going to drop the old DNB red back in. It's a 7.5 on the tube condition chart so it's really not that bad. I simply figured why not drop a 9 in if I have the opportunity.
