Kinda late to be asking this question for references or advise as I just purchased one of these receivers.

But, got it for under $200.00 from Onkyo. I need it for upstairs for everyday tv.

Anyone own one of these?

Thoughts?

It is on my list:

Onkyo 307 ($195 shipped refurbed)
Onkyo 506 ($200 shipped refurbed)
Onkyo 576 ($270 shipped refurbed)
Denon 1709 ($220 w/3yr warranty shipped new)

I am leaning toward the 1709 because it has Dynamic Volume (perfect for TV viewing) and it will be the 99% TV viewing area with an occassional BR if we dont want to go downstairs.

Let me know if you like it!

And where are these being offered, in refurb form, for so little?

Google "onkyo refurb" and you'll find plenty of sources -- e.g. this eBay store. His prices with shipping are about $10 more than Greg said.

I've had an HTR510 for 4 years and it's done fine. I wouldn't say it's High Fidelity but it does a good job for a very reasonable price. I'll have to upgrade to an HDMI-capable receiver one of these days and refurbished Onkyo will be on the short list.

You gotta look everyday if you are looking for something in particular. The unit I purchased (TX-SR506) was there for months, then it was off the site for a while. I kept putting off the purchase and then when I finally was ready to pull the trigger, it was gone. Evil or Very Mad

But, I kept looking and in a few days it popped back up on the site. After I purchased mine last night, the web site no longer shows it. I'm guessing I got the last one. Also, the unit I bought is no longer being made, so I guess I am getting the last of the last.

Also, since I signed up (or registered), I got $10.00 off my purchased. Thumbs Up Another bonus, free shipping. Thumbs Up

Total purchase price was: $189.00. NICE!!!

There's also Accessories4Less - they have lots of nice refurb gear, including Onkyo, Marantz, Canton, KEF - even some Escient pieces. They have the SR506 in stock right now at $179 + $15-20 ground shipping.

This is totally off-topic for this thread, but if anybody's looking for a higher-end AVR or prepro, they have the flagship 886 processor for $999, and the flagship 906 AVR for $1250. That's a big chunk of change off on both of those pieces. If it weren't for that big damn blue LED on the volume knob, I'd sell my Integra, pick up the 886, and pocket the coin. Wink

I fixed the big damn blue LED on my old DVD player. Electrical tape works wonders. Smile

I've used electrical tape to cover up obnoxious lights, too! But... Hmm... How would the electrical tape look wrapped clear around the circumference of the volume knob on the face plate of a brand new $1000 piece of audio gear, Red Gree... er, Gary? Wink

With the dimmer function you can turn off the "Big Blue LED". So it wouldn't be a factor. You should buy it if your thinking about it.

Oh, you can turn the big volume knob ring completely off? That's good to know!

I probably still won't switch, as I'm quite happy with the Integra... I think the build quality of the buttons, door, etc. is a notch above the Onkyo... The Onkyo feels a bit more plastic-y in the knobs and buttons... But, performance-wise, they're identical of course.

If I could have bought a refurb 886 when I was buying, I probably would have, though. Now, selling and re-buying, I wouldn't keep enough to make it all worth the trouble. For somebody that wants to get into a prepro, though... The 886 at a grand is a hell of a piece of equipment for that kind of money.

I didn't realize it before, but that ebay link just goes to Accessories4Less' ebay store (I had no problem with the link). Just go to their site instead... Same stuff and should be the same prices.

Or, just go to the ShopOnkyo store like Wallace said.

E-Cost is a good site. That is where I got my Tx-Sr806, for $699 plus shipping.

Ok, extremly fast service/shipping. I placed my order Thursday morning, and received the unit on Saturday!

Only had a few minutes to mess around with it, but so far, very nice, especially for the price!

Has anybody had a chance to check out the 906; particularly the ISF Cal feature? I found alot of amateur reviews but nobody went into detail about it. I don't think the reviewers even played with it.

I ended up getting the Onkyo 507 from Acc4less and they shipped it in a hurry. It arrived last week and was everything that people said it would be...however...1 day after I got it, it started to shut down due to excessive heat.

I don't even have it installed in a cabinet like I was planning...it is sitting on top of a shelf with nothing above it or even around it for that matter.

Acc4Less responded instantly to my RMA request and told me that when I call them to tell them I returned it to Fedex, they would immediately ship out a replacement so I wouldn't have to wait.

Did you get a code indicating the shutdown was due to heat? My (six year old) Pioneer Elite had an overly sensitive dB threshold but that was corrected in the replacement.

I just guessed it was due to heat for a few reasons....the top of the case was very hot, so hot in fact I could barely keep my hand on it....also, when I attempted to turn it back on it would immediately turn off and continue to do so until it had sat for quite some time (cooling off).
