I had a bad Fdrive that Curt fixed and I replaced in the NEC XG 135.

I have a problem. The picture has shifted to the left and there is not enough correction in the projector with "Raster Center" to center the crosshairs and the picture is way off.

If I look into the tubes it appears that the picture is pretty much centered so not sure where things have gotten off.

I have a couple of pictures showing the cross hairs and black thread and just how for things are off. I think you can see the thread in the picture.

I am not an expert, but will try anything. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Well...if the crosshairs are centered on the tubefaces, but not on the screen...wouldn't that indicate that your projector isn't pointed at the center of the screen ??

Perhaps that was what burned out the F-drive in the first place ? If your projector is not perfectly placed in relation to your screen, then you will have to use an excessive amount of electronic correction for everything, geometry(alignment), convergence and focus.

Did you set cursor phase so the test pattern center coincides with the raster center ?

Ideally, you don't use ANY electronic controls to center the raster center on the screen center, that should ALL be done with physical placement for the green, then with toe in for the red and blue...

There are a bunch of possibilities:

  • You need to adjust PHASE to center the cross-hair. This should be done first whenever you setup a new signal.
  • You may have LINEARITY off to one side. This would be measurable if the hatch pattern has narrower squares on the left vs. right
  • The STATIC control might be adjusted to one extreme and CENTERING is fighting it. Set green STATIC to 0, then see if you have appropriate CENTERING adjustment. This also assumes you have the projector pointed square to the screen.

I have never quite figured out how to set phase.

So I worked at it some and went back to the cross hair pattern and it lined up with the thread. You guys nailed that one. I do not recall messing with phase. But I am probably pretty close with the quick adjustments I just did.

So far you guys are 1 for 1. Now for the problem that had me going in the first place. On the Toshiba HD input over component to a Lumagen scaler, I get the picture shift I show below. You can see the left hand side of the picture displayed over on the right hand side after a black vertical bar. It must be something to do with the input from the player through the Lumagen. I will have to do a little work to see if I can figure this one out. There is a way to adjust the corners but this does not seem to be the correct adjustment. Will have to work on that one tomorrow evening.

Thanks for the help, you saved me lots of time. I suspect I will be posting more as I try to get everything else worked out.

That last pix indeed shows a phase issue, you're way off on it.

OK guys, the phase is hosed. How do I know if I have it correct. I have read the manual and the link Tom provided, but not sure exactly what is perfect phase. This is what I have adjusted to. I moved the box over and centered it over the thread I have on the screen to show the center.

You can't see the black thread, but the box is over the intersection of the two center threads.

Is this what phase should be on an XG? If so I will proceed from here.
