I think this is the first time I actually started my own thread. I need some design help. I have started redoing my dedicated room. My wife sees new projector and this means new furniture, paint, construction. To the issue, The knee walls are 6 feet high. While I love the color of the walls, they seem a little bare. I have thought about wainscoting, or possibly carpet. Only up to about 48 inches. Any suggestions, pictures, or even a "hey, you can't fix that ugly room" would be helpful. I have attached a few photos.

now you done it, your going to get all kinds of smart-ass comments about that wavy screen Mr. Green
For the wall, a mixture of Acoustic absorption panels and framed movie posters would be pretty cool. I'm also not sure how hard it is to take the plastic case off the Barco, but some dark paint there would really alleviate the "White Elephant" look of the machine. Other than that it's a cool room, lots of guys have to share space in a living room and such so a dedicated room is a luxury. Thumbs Up

Well I think that room definately has a lot of potential however, personally I like to keep it simple, subsequently it wont date as quick. I'd leave the screen wall black, paint the rest of the room in say an aubergine, change the carpet to charcoal and a similar shade for new recliners.
IMO simple is best but take in mind this is my own personal opinion and you and your wife may have different/obscure taste,in the end it's what you and your wife want and will be happy with that counts.

Shawn ,I would be happy to come over and give you some input if you'd like. If you want you and the wife could come down to take a look at my room for some ideas. Your room has great potential, good high side walls and arched ceilings that color blending , matching, contrasting, loves.

But first get a new screen. Razz

Dave.

I have some aluminum strips to mount the screen to the wall and tension it. It is on the list. The recliners are black, 3 on the riser and 2 in the front. I like the movie posters idea, maybe two on each side.

How about a some fabric walls with acoustic treatments behind, some cool lighting, and a soffit to jazz up your room?

Wow...those are cool...The decor looks like the inside of a Shuttle Craft. I would NOT have them on during a movie however.

Zero footprint lighting. Wink Ideal for that sloped ceiling. I wouldn't have them on during a movie either.

The owners refer to the theater as "the airplane". The room is also in the Home Entertainment Dec 2008 issue. Definately a very high end room but loaded with ideas for smaller spaces.

From the construction guy in me (with a preference for wood), I'd say get stain that matches your furniture, and then do wooden panels with chair rail on the walls.

Go about 2/3 up the wall with the panels, stick the chair rail on the top edge, and stain all or most of it to the color of the furniture. Using an amber stain on the panel inserts would work as well.

For instance, check here:
http://www.decomoldings.com/wallpanel-gallery.htm

Now, instead of using "bland white" make the inset panels (the big squares) some amber or pine like or medium oak colored stain, then stain the panel borders (the 1"x5" pieces that surround the "square" panels) to match the furniture, and stain the chair rail (the top trim) to match the furniture.

That would be the route I would go - at least if you plan on keeping that furniture.

I kinda like the more "natural" look of furniture like yours combined with the "neato" look of the projection system. Makes it comfy and inviting, yet still "home theater cool"

Updates, finally! Ok, so the room is painted, seats are in, riser is carpeted, white elephant is painted. The screen still needs to be replaced... The new one is in the box. I have charcoal carpet going in next month. At least I am using a factory mount!

96x54 will be the viewable size. It is a little too big, but I have a 100% light controlled room and I am quite content with the brightness. There is a panel fitted over the window in the back of the room. When I bring the projector down to retube, I will post pictures of the mount. It is my favorite part. Sick, I know.

The room looks great. I wish I had bought the 3 row seats they're much easier to place, and are proportionally better for most rooms, than the four rows or doubled up 2 seaters.

The most important question is not the size of the screen, or the light control , it's will the new screen be Flat..... not wrinkled? Razz
