So, I am reading this article about the latest (5th) iteration of Paradigm Studio speakers and wonder how things got to be the way they are.

My original v.1 Studio 100's in Rosewood with matching surrounds and center channel and the lite PW2200 sub cost me about $4K total from a local boutique when I got them back in 2003. It seems the article points out that the package of Studio 60's, surrounds, center, and sub will not set you back a little over US$6,000.

Times were different back in 2003. The US$ bought 50% more for the Canadian dollar. Now its about one for one. Still, I do not think its time to justify upgrading what I have, because I love what I got. Anyone else find the this happening to them? The inability to justify the need or want to upgrade something?

Some the newer Studio series (since v4 I think) has some of the trickle-down technologies off the higher Signature series lines so it's likely that since v4 the incremental jump in performance is bigger. I have no proof of this however.

I certainly wouldn't upgrade versions. The differences likely wouldn't be that great.

I myself jumped about a dozen generations when I went from a set of original Paradigm speakers from 1988 (11se MkII's) for my mains to Signature S8's in around 2004. Now that was a substantial jump in performance due to the age difference (technology has gotten better) and also the class or line of speaker involved, not to mention price point.
