Well my nec 6pg is acting pretty badly. There is a bad plastic smell coming from it and the picture has gone completely blured . Anyone know what the cause might be? Im thinking of just throwing it in the garbage if its too big of a repair, unless anyone wants it.

If you like the projector, I'd suggest opening it up and looking at the focus board to look at it and it's STK chip to see if anything is burned. You can run it for a short amount of time (long enough to look for something cooking) with it opened up. Something heating up enough to smell it should be easy to spot. Look at the plastic connectors attached to the focus board first. If you are going to trash it, if it has colored (red and green) lenses, you can sell them along with the factory remote. They still have value.

It does sound like a straightforward F or C board failure. Post a pix of the image, 'blurred' can mean any number of things.

I dont have a camera but the image looks like it is completely defocused. I just turned it on again today and now half the image is defocused and also the projector displays the image and then all of the image goes out on the top and bottom for a few seconds and then comes back on. It keeps doing that now.
Also the fans sound like they are spinning faster and then slower now. They are not at a constant speed.
I noticed the day before all this happened the blue in the picture would become very bright and stand out alot.
How much do you guys think it will cost to repair it? Or sell it?

Curt's one of only a few people who can actually repair an NEC so you would have to send him multiple parts from your machine to pin-point the problem in his shop.

To sell it whole is pretty much impossible these days since it's broken. You can get $100. for both the set-up and operating remoter I tihnk? Everyone is always looking for them. Also, lenses are worth about $150. for a nice set of HD-145's with color filtering.
Where are you located?

Figure $150-200 to repair the boards. Have you tried disconnecting the F and C boards? That's the first step in narrowing it down.

Never throw these PJ's out, they are designed to be fixed easily. Also, if it comes down to it, the parts can be easily removed and sold to people that can use them, like me.
