|
|
Hi,
I had an HPVS failure with one of my Ultras. I replaced the HPVS as well as a neckboard (since initially I suspected the problem was due to a VNB) and and now I have the following:
The image is compressed horizontally and the image is completely out of focus. The R & B can be more or less focused but the G can only be focused in the center. I've already swapped:
- CLM
- VIM
- LVPS
- HDM
- FGM
..and I am always getting the same behavior.
Ideas?

hmmm i wonder if the HVPS failure took out the deflection coil and or focus coils. was there and arc at all? An I assume this is only on the green or all tubes?
if all tubes then rule out the deflection coil unless it was a bad arc and took them all out but i doubt it, looks like the only thing left is the CVA and VDM since you changed all others.

Athanasios,
It's in all tubes.... so I don't think it is in the coils... I will change the whole rear panel (CVA, etc.) and see.
There was no ark... when the HPVS failed.... but definitively there was an smell of fried electronics, that's why I first thought it was a VNB which in fact looked bad, which I changed.
I will change the whole rear of the PJ and see.... Good thing I have a lot of spares.

Yep. I would also start here for this problem. And again, you got something mysterious going on in that Marquee.

When a splitter is suspect to this degree - replace it, even if it's not the real problem.

Splitter changed, problem remains. Will change rear panel tonight.
1031: moving contrast up down does not affect picture size, but affects focus heavily.

The HVPS mainly operates from the 390 volt primary DC supply inside the LVPS. The HDM mainly operates from the +85 DC supply from the LVPS.
The internal +85 DC supply inside the LVPS is switched from the main 390 DC supply inside the LVPS.
Since both width and focus suffered in that shot, and both operate from the same 390 supply, I would suggest that you replace the LVPS.

looks like he changed all boards except the back heat sink ones. if those dont show any issue i wonder if its the the mother board of the main chip on the back plane, not sure if that controls any function but isnt it where the super secret service menu code is in and some other factory set functions? didn't you have a glycol leak on that PJ once , that could have done something to that chip? Tim where are you!!!!????

Ya know, I have to ask, when you changed the CLM did you also use a different DPB or do you use the original and put it on the different CLM?
