Hey, I recently purchased the 2009 Mac Mini to be used as my HTPC. I currently have my VUDU connected to my HDFURY2 -> 65inch Mits (1080i) and it works fine. When i connect my MAc Mini directly to HDfury or through a HDMI switch i dont see my Mac desktop. I am guessing the reason i am seeing nothing is because my default resolution setting in the mac mini is set to 1280 X 800 (This is what i see when i connect my Mini to the 30inch Cinema display). Could that be the reason? Some of the other setting are 1024 X 640 & 1024 X 768 and other lower resolutions.

If that is the reason how do i set the 1920 X 1080i setting in the MAc to display correctly? There is no option for me to add any resolutions. What do i need to do?

Just to be sure, make sure you're using the Hdfury2 power supply. Most source devices (especially laptops) don't output enough power to run the HDfury2 properly.

If your display doesn't support the resolution you're feeding it however then that's likely the issue. Does your Mits support 1280x800? probably not.

I'm afraid I don't have any idea on how to set the Mac up to run different resolutions. Check your Mac manual or contact Mac. (Not very helpful - I know). Maybe someone else with a Mac can give you some hints.....

Do a search or browse the HKmod forum... There have been several MacBook/mini/OS X/Fury-related threads in the last few months. Grab a copy of SwitchResX if you want to set up a normal CE resolution like 720p or 1080i, and go to town.

Hook up the mini to your 30" display then also use the other output to your Mitsubishi. then in the monitor panel select detect displays, it will then list all your possible resolutions, select the 1920x1080i, I think it should be there after you mac reads the EDID from the mitsu. select it and the desktop should come up on the TV. At least it should wrk this way. Also you should mirror the destop to both displays to see whats happening on the 30" if the mitsu wont come up.

I dont think you'll need the fury to get the mac on your mitsu, the HDfury defaults to 1080p, you can get a update to have it default to 1080i if you want.

Athanasios, I assume he's trying to use the HD Fury to get around HDCP issues with iTunes content (as well as the Vudu box) since the Mits probably doesn't have an HDCP-compliant DVI or HDMI input. Otherwise, yes - he could probably connect to DVI and eliminate the HD Fury altogether.

I don't think you could mirror at all, in any case, as the 30" ACD is very inflexible as far as what resolutions it will display... So, if you turned mirroring on, it's very likely that there wouldn't be a single resolution that would display properly on both displays. For instance, the Mits will probably only synch and display 480i, 480p, 720p or 1080i... none of which the 30ACD will display.

You a good point, though... rpkman, you may want to use a different display - one that's more flexible than the Mits - just to set up the Mini for the right resolution. A fairly recent (as in 10 years old) CRT computer monitor would be a good candidate if you know where one of those is kicking around.

I used switchresx and created a custom setting of 1920 X 1080 interlaced. I selected it when i was connected to the cinema display (CD). As soon as i selected 1920 X 1080 interlaced resolution CD goes blank and it just keeps blinking. I then went ahead and connected the Mini to the TV through HDMI via HDFury. I still could not see the desktop. Somehow some handshake is not happening. Very disappointing that nothing is working at this moment.

Has anyone else tried what i am trying to do and got this to work?

no my mits does not have HDMI which is why i bought hdfury2. My Mits has only component inputs & Composite and one DTV 1080i input.

In the meanwhile after a long discussion with apple folks in the apple store, they asked me to try VGA to VGA meaning Mini->Mini DVI to VGA adaptor -> VGA cable->VGA input (The other part that came with HDFury2) -> Component

This also did not work.

Are you sure you selected the Component output and not the RGBHV output on the Fury2?
