Congrats again from me as well. ONe thing to check into that I understand is new: Check into a 3D ultrasound. A buddy just had it done, and says it's amazing compared to the 2D type that we're all used to. I haven't seen his yet, but he says it's da bomb.

3D one is at 18 weeks. We are doing something called Ultrasound preview. You pay for it separately. Depending on the package you get different photos and video at different times during the pregnancy.

If she wanted a photo from the diagnostic one today she would have had to pay extra for a print out. Glad we are doing the private one on top. We just watched the viseo again on the Marquee. Much better.

To answer your question, the NEC definitely wins in the color category, but not by as much as I thought. Well, to be fair this unit does have the green C element, but flesh tones are not as good as the NEC. If I could find a way to put my color corrected HD 144's? 145's? on the Marquee, I'd have a formidable machine indeed.
I've also been told that the rec C-element gets it pretty close to the NEC. The sharpness and brightness make up for some of the lack of color though. 9"lc makes a difference. A lot more than the 10% improvement from an 8" AC unit to a 9"lc unit I've been told about too. It takes CRT to a whole new level! I now know why the 9" crowd remember their 7" and 8" AC projectors fondly as a great "starting point". 9"lc takes this hobby into a new league.
On to other thoughts related. We watched the BR of the first Tomb Raider last night, because it runs through lots of color, dark scenes, light scenes, flesh tones...
Don't get me wrong, I love my little PG+ and would and will recommend them to anyone who wants a nice entry level machine, but it simply can't do what the 9"lc Marquee can. 1080P on the Marquee isn't "soft" either. It's sharper than 1080i on the PG+ and I was pretty proud of my setup on the PG+. I needed greyscale done, but the actual focus on the PG+ was sharp. This is sharper using "soft" 1080p.
|
No offense, but I and most don't consider the PG the standard for the 8" AC. The biggest difference for me is going from AC to LC. Others don't think it is that big of a deal. Honestly, this really becomes a subjective opinion on how big of a difference one sees between the different models.

Why not? The PG Xtra/Plus series is basically the reference for 8" AC.
They are just as sharp as the others, and have filtered lenses.
808/1208/Marquee? Nup, HD-8s let it down, no filtering. And not as sharp, more halos (according to those who have changed lenses).
XG? PG is just as good. No way could I tell the difference between my 751 and my PG Xtra (that's what led to the LC mod).
I was asking about colours, as that is the one area where a stock 9" Barco or Marquee is let down (Cine9 aside). Fit a Red C element and it will be identical to the NEC....they all have 3M lenses/C-elements (G90 light green C element aside), and Panasonic Phosphurs.

Now don't get nasty on me now. It was a pro calibrated 9PG Plus with brand new tubes and the tinted red and green lenses. After installing red and green c-elements in the 4600HD, the color is damn close. The marquee may have a slight edge over the 4600 in resolution ability but the AmPro kicks the $hit out of it in color reproduction.
Where's all the topless sun bathers???
