|
|
As the title reads, got a bad conv drift on the blue tube...Had it up and running for about a month or two with no issues. Seems like pretty much every day now the blue conv has drifted pretty badly one both halves of the bottom of the screen. It's always the same place - upper half of the screen looks great.
Any ideas?

The first thing I would check is the battery on the CPU board. I think Curt has posted a picture and procedure for changing it safely.

Along with what Chip said you should also go back and neutral all the blue convergence settings and start from scratch. I have found that extreme settings will drift more then when closer to neutral settings.

One quick way to check the baseline setup is to put up a crosshatch pattern and turn off the registration. If he's done a good job of the preliminary setup, the center should still be converged with the reggie off.

Battery is one, when I had my 3300 hung (and I've finally gotten to the point where I can have a "real" theater again, so soon....) the single biggest issue with drift was heat, adding baffling and/or going to external fans that move a hell of a lot more air worked for me.

"Battery is one,"
Are you saying the battery reads 1 volt? You're going to have problems.

If you are having heat problems,
1st, you must have correct mechanical setup. To much electronic compensation will cause increased heat.
2nd, You do have the three factory air filters removed, right?
3rd, If the projector is mounted close to the ceiling, it tends to re-circulate the heat it generates. All the heat will rise to the ceiling and the belly fans will pull it right back in again. Also the SMPS (low voltage power supply) fan will pull the hot air coming out of the back right in again. You must devise a way to shoot that warm air to one side and pull cool air from the other. You'll drop the internal temps more than 10 degrees just doing that.
If that battery is down to 1 volt, you must change it asap.

Chip,
should have been "battery is one cause".
Right now the projector is fine, I've moved into a rental since my AVS days, been a few years since I've played with it, but it's going back up in the next few months. I was simply offering another possible option for the drift. Another that got me on a friends projector was not completely tightening the bolts after toeing the lenses in for mechanical alignment.
