Unfortunately, our most recent job that we speced HDMI baluns on just flat-out didn't work. They worked fine to 100+ ft over 2x CAT-6 in our shop, but then didn't work over much shorter distance in the house.
I may contact you to check these out when they go on sale. |
No problems! 200' is not a problem. You can go longer if needed with repeaters. If there's interest we'll carry distribution stuff as well.

I wonder how much better these would perform if they used STP instead of UTP.

I used the Monoprice units and Cat5 to get the signal up to our bedroom with great success.

I have used the Atlona products to send 1080 HD over cat 6 successfully (http://www.atlona.com). Our vendor at work installed them to send HDMI, RS232 control, and line level audio over a ~100ft single cat 6 cable. While I have not set up any test gear to see how well they work, the picture on the other end of the cat 6 cable appears to be free from errors. The key is to use something that is more than a simple balun for the best picture quality. It looks like kal's product would work this way as well. Although not always the case, the requirement of a external power supply generally means you are getting something more advanced than a simple balun.
I use a "high speed" BlueRigger 35ft HDMI cable with no issues in my theater. Anyone running more than ~50ft of HDMI should really consider something like the Blu-Wire.
