there should be no Bowing, the image should be rectangular like the screen.
Good point by Chirs on Lugs and G2's. You need to find out what types of tubes are in it. the Lugs are a a modification from stock.

Looks similar to Guy Kuo's guide. Is Bill Blue's preferred for Marquee owners, or they about the same?

Well the internet was down for 2 days...... but I can not get the 9500 lined up/converged . So far I have the p/j 118" from the screen. Diagonal measurements from the screen are 128" left side 127 and 3/4" right side. All measurements are to the center of green lens. Bottom of screen is level with the bottom of green lense. I know this is not in the right spot as lens should be in the middle of screen for perfection, but it will do for now as I am just trying to get a picture to the screen not a dialed in one.

I have used the internal menu of the 9500 and all of the material posted here in this thread so far.

1] The on screen menu will not drop out to allow me to see the raster grid on the tube face. How do I do that?

2] I have shifted the red and blue side to side and I can see the grid move behind the menu and have line up the edges.

3 ]The picture that is displayed is 3 distinct images 1 green 1 blue 1 red overlapping .Like a deck of cards fanned out.

4] Image is from a sony 550 blu-ray through the moome card older version, set to 1080i. That did display a good, not perfect image during demo.

5] On the sony menu the BD DATA BD ROM image is overlayed vertically and off to the left.

6 This 9500 worked fine in the previous install. I do not know if it was dropped before I picked it up I hope not and do not think so. But who knows?

I have re-initialized 9500 to start from scratch.

Is this just my noob showing or is there something else afoot?

hit mute while it is up, it might hide it for you like it does in the Service color temp menu section

2] I have shifted the red and blue side to side and I can see the grid move behind the menu and have line up the edges.

Ok , you mean centered with relation to the tube face edges, right?

3 ]The picture that is displayed is 3 distinct images 1 green 1 blue 1 red overlapping .Like a deck of cards fanned out.

This is normal and it now needs to be converged you know you do the convergance after you do all the moving of the grids and grid sizes right?, and you do the toe in of the actual lense's?

4] Image is from a sony 550 blu-ray through the moome card older version, set to 1080i. That did display a good, not perfect image during demo.

You did use the onscreen mechanical set up after initialization right? this is where you make all the grids the same size and line them up mechanically before you do any electronic convergence or geometry.

Is this just my noob showing or is there something else afoot?

I think your getting ahead of yourself with the actual image before you set up the intrnal grids first, I know we said set it up with an external but first follow the mechanical set up guide with out an internal image then move onto the
source set up guide. there are two different guides .

The lens doesnt have to be in the middle of the screen hight wise other wise your cant have any seats behind the PJ.
About a foot above the bottom or bellow the top if ceiling mounted is about normal it dosnt matter much unless your anal and want a perfect squared tube face grid to match the tube face edges.

O.K. I found a loose wire that went to the back of the blue tube. The wire came from under the red tube connecting to a board up in front of the P/J. The wire was black with a blue shrink tubing on it that connected to a pin on the blue tube. I removed the shield from the green tube to see where another wire that originated from the same place went on the green. Once reconnected the picture shifted to an almost viewable image .It is still terrible, but at least it is now one image.

So I am trying to set it up again but I still can not get the mechanical guided on screen menu to drop out while trying to view the tube to do the raster image. Also the red tube is pushed as far towards the green as it will go but will not line up the grids for convergence.

So how do I Confused

Mute does nothing. Red goes no further. WTF Rolling Eyes

DOAH!! Embarassed

The red tube/lens 7/16" bolt was stripped now that it is loose I have moved the lens and have a picture still terrible but getting closer.

Still can't get the menu to drop for raster.I look in the tube and see a grid with a big black square in the middle.

Oh in the mechanical set up guide the menu stays there, you should only see it on the green. You dont have to see the whole grid on the green to center it just the edges. Keep them equal distance from each corner. If you see the menu on the red then you have the video cables mixed up.

O.K. I do not feel silly. No matter what setting the blu-ray is on 480i all the way to 1080p on HDMI the menu is on all 3 tubes. On Component/YPbPr (Analog, 480i to 1080p) that menu [box no words on red & blue] will not come off all 3 tubes. This is going through a moome card older version. I am getting close but since can not see the grids I just can't get it.

I can not think of a way to do this. I have tried to put up the blu-ray menu and align the lenes with just the icons as guide but can't get them to be all in sync. I have the side covers off, the top off, and can see the tubes moving in the chassis when the front screws are adjusted but not good enough.

Seriously frustrated Mad

Is there a way you can take pics? Are you doing the mechancal set up with no source connected? its best to do it that way. then after you have mechanical set up you go to convergance, then do geometry, then add the source.

Wow Dave, you've managed to completely hose a simple set-up on the simplest CRT ever made, that deserves some kind of prize Thumbs Up
you need to start over. your comment above makes it appear like you've mixed up the bolts that loosen and allow the Red and Blue tubes to pivot (toe in) and the cap screws in front that are for Scheimphlug which is lens flapping for focus and has nothing to do with toe-in.

Yes, no source at all. Moome card removed from machine. I am getting close I now have almost one image. It still has overlay rgb but a great picture in the center of the screen. Inky blacks and I can read the words on the walls in
2001 A Space Odyssey.

It still has the black square on the red and blue tube faces when running the set up guide.

I just feel I'm getting there Thumbs Up

Nice keep at it nice and slow, eventually you will learn what controls do what and what affect they have on other areas.

I have Problems of my own calibration wise Sad

you win a box of worn out capacitors. based on some ofthe post i'm not even really surewhat your doing? Like this line makes no sense

Trust me your not getting there yet. go into Convergence, push zero to re-set and exit with save. Now push HELP, go through the guided mechanical set-up. When it says to turn contrast down and look into the tubes your simply trying to center tha pattern on the tube face. you don't need to see the whole grid, just look at the edges and make sure all 12 edges (4 on each tube) are equal distance from the tube edge.
when it gets to mechanical toe-in your trying to pivot the entire blue and Red tube, from the tip of the lens to the edge of the Gold neck -card card. Line up the edges of the blue and Red grids with the green grid ON the SCREEN, your not looking into the tubes now. Then do an Interpolated Convergence walking through the whole process. Keep in mind Convergence is 45 steps on Red to Green and 45 steps on blue to green. Keep pushing ENTER after each zone to go through all 90 convergence steps.
The entire grid should be perfectly converged now, no excuses or exceptions. Wink
