I got off my lazy ass. Fixed the screen properly, redid the G2's, the focus, the astig, geometry, convergence, have the HTPC runing at 180i@96

Then I actually used my spyder2 and HDFR.

I AM IN LOVEE!!!!!!!

Just running some BD & HD DVD material tonight, and almost wetting myself with how good it looks.

I forgot how stunning CRT can be, and fade to blacks to die for. ANDDDD!!! I still have to apply gamma correction properly, it will rock.

I will be getting some gamma correction soon on my ATI card, doing some beta testing fro AMD, can't wait. I will also get a Box1020 or something for my Component connection, for the odd TV program that could do with it.

Congrats...They do indeed look great when you consider its 12+ year old projector....Try that on a digital!

"doing some beta testing fro AMD"

count me in. I have been bugging them but never got a response.

Colorspace conversion and the like.

If I can help getting anything nice implemented I'd be happy to.
Not to mention that I will build a new workstation/HTPC when I get the time.

BTW congrats!
I hope to get the same sensation when I set up my PJ again.

180i, eh? Seems like you could at least push it up to 480i... Wink

Hmm, what kind of testing? I'm using the regular on-board gamma with my 4850, but if there's some other nifty stuff in the works, I'd volunteer to check it out in a second!

Umm, news flash. MOST of CRT projectors out there are now 12+ years old. Damn, time flies! Twisted Evil

Gamma does not work with Vista and AMD in PowerDVD etc. Will be testing a new version of a driver that puts in a fix for that and soem other tweaks.

One way around the HTPC Gamma in Vista is to use WMP Classic, and play the m2ts file direct from the hard drive. Bit of a pin, but works

Powerdvd??? You have got to be joking.

Ken, please spend the $100 on Anydvd HD instead and watch Bluray straight from the disc with MPC HC and get all the gamma you want.

And the eac3to author is working on a new video renderer with a 3dLUT which will enable sophisticated colourspace conversions, gamma, the whole nine yards.

And you can do 7.1 channel Digital Room Correction.

Lots of fun to be had with Opensource/freeware/non-mainstream commercial software.

Lots of pain to be had with Powerdvd (like the enforced audio downconversion to 16/48). No thank you.

And the AMD guys never get the levels right. You have to use ffdshow or a renderer like Haali to get control of the levels. On a CRT like ours the levels should NEVER be expanded and should be passed through unmolested (not possible if you use HDMI I fear...one more reason to stay with VGA).

Can you ask the AMD guys where the option to add 1080i as a resolution went from the HDTV settings in the CCC? I'm worried it won't be possible to force a monitor to 1080i 30hz anymore (prior to tweaking to 1080i 47.952hz (what we call 96hz) in Powerstrip)?

(Ken, if you ever got Blending working on a PC, can you PM me please? A mate wants to try it.)

Blending with PC is easy.
Try vvvv.org
You can even do colorspace conversion and the like.
Gamma can also be controlled from within vvvv. I even made a simple patch for both the above mentioned.
Multi screen is already supported through a built in patch where you control size and other stuff easily.
Inverse burnmap is also possible. All sorts of cool stuff can be done.

When testing is as a player it did offer the smoothest playback with the least cpu consumption. It also does v-sync by default if using ex9 renderer.
It sill stutter of you use the node gui as it rebuilds something when you poke around. A gui done in a rendered won't stutter anything.

It is however node based but a simple gui can be built. I am already working on one for myself.

Why not make another thread om the subject. VVVV and blending is certainly an interesting topic. Too bad I don't have multiple PJs.

hey Mark,

I did already buy AnyDVD HD, when they ran the special at Xmas Smile A I said, I'm just testing the new driver, as a lot of folks still use PowerDVD etc, and that i what it is designed to work with.

It's fun to get access to the development team at AMD as well. They have a good bunch of guys there, who are understaffed and over worked.

The problem is Dell etc drive their sales. Most of the guys there would LOVE to make a product that we would drool over, BUT 99% of the population does not care.

Basic realities of economics.

FWIW, remember I asked for some wish list asks a fw months ago. Well some of those (Don't have the list yet) went into the product roadmap. So they do try.

The new Gamma feature, will as you predict fall short of our expectations, but it will be better than nothing, and help with some games that also in Vista could not access the system gamma controls etc.

Do you have a script/setup I can try with some of the open source software for Gamma tht works well on your XG?

I gave up on the blending a while back, but I will check into that vvvv
