Looks like I'm gonna have to do some AmPro repairs here. But before you get started on the AmPro bashing, the problem is I've worn out the red tube. It's got low emission and poor focus.

Yep. Hate to bust it up though. I do have a 10 red in a Marquee coupling but I'm saving that for a future project.
This is the original red. It must have about 20K hours on it. I've noticed that the focus was starting to suffer a couple of months ago. I might try to whack it with Heywoods rejuvinator first but I think it's time to go.

Tim,
It can use P19LCP's or lugs. Same pinout as Barco.

I think it's funny how some people hold onto and insist on bashing later model AmPro's using reliability as their main complaint. This projector (to me) must be 6 years old. I hung it two weeks after buying it and it immediately developed a HVPS problem. I bought a replacement from Curt and that supply is still in it. A few years later I had a neck board act up. A few years after that I had some magic smoke appear from a bad soldered joint on the focus amp. The most recent problem was a green tube implosion that I think was the tubes fault as the replacement has been fine for a year and a half without making any other repairs. To some, that might sound like a lot of problems in 6 years but that projector is running 12-15 hours a day, every day, I $hit you not. If you don't believe me, ask Heywood. I don't think he's ever been to my house when he projector was off

13 hours a day? Jeez... and the red tube is fried, that's kind of odd. You're not using the PJ for mood lighting, are you?

The red is original. The blue and green have been changed twice.

I think you posted in another thread the pin-out of those tubes. Let me see if I can find it and look at a a neck board to see if it's doable. I don't see any reason for it not to be if they worked in a Marquee.

I'm not scared of rewiring it but the more pressing problem is the key. There is no room for the neckboard to rotate to accomodate the new location of the key. I remember suggesting in your Thomas tube thread that perhaps a simple solution would be to make a adapter plug to go between the Thomas tube and neckboard of choice. That might be just as simple as smashing a old tube for the necks plug and scavange a socket from a old neck board to make it up. Do you follow me here? I know I have the stuff here to do it and I am on vacation

So your saying forget the key and paint by the numbers? I can do that.

Right, the pin 3 on the thomas tube would be pin 4 on the LCP 09 or LUG and pin 9 on the Thomas would be pin 10 on the LCP 09 or LUG. the pins are one off in numbers but you dont have to go by numbers. Go by the designation. On the Marquee VNB i had to drill out where pin 4 would be and I jumped the G1 from socket 5 to the new socket 4 i drilled. the I had to cut the G1 trace(socket 5) and drill it out larger to make room for the G2 wire to connect to the thomas tubes G2(pin 4), see how the numbers are off by 1.

I see where that comes from. MEC counts the edge of the key as a pin location. So there is never a pin 3. The Sony and Thomas tube does not count that section of the rotation as pin 3 therefore the next available pin is pin 3. The Sony pin-out shows a pin for a "spark arrestor". What did you do with that. As I recall, you did complain about some sparking within the tube or was that something different.
Lastly, how did you find magnetics placement? were they generally in the same location for the Thomas tubes as the MEC's? I don't recall you finishing testing so I don't know the final result.

I did the test on a used tube and that is why i had sparking(crud on the cathode or the G2). The Arc Supressor just had a large resistor 100k-1M to ground. Jarmo(1031) has a set in his Marquee as does Crt-Ben. The magnetics fit the same as on an LUG as they have the same bell housing shape. I can send you one to test if you like it keep it and pay me later.

True! It's the primary TV in the house, and toggles between kid duties and mom duties. I'm not entirely sure Chip ever actually watches it, he just hangs around to play with electronics!

It's the only reason I still have a place to live. My theory, install a bunch of $hit no one else knows how to fix. That way, they can't get rid of you.
OK, the master plan at this point is to rob the complete red tube assembly (magnetics and all) from the doner as it's been tweaked out to the max. I hate to do this but I already had to borrow the green from it when the green imploded on the main (house) unit. All I have to do to it is install a red c-element and it's good to go. I really hated to take any parts off of this as it was set up perfectly. This is a image taken from the doner PJ on a 100 inch screen.

That shot in the previous post is one of my first round of screen shots. It's one of the best ones I've taken but still not able to match what you would have seen in person. We all know it's from a AmPro 4600HD but can you guess the source equipment?
