Stay far, far away from wood / whatever flooring - carpet if you at all can, and if not, put as big a rug as you can manage in there. I'm not an acoustic expert, but reflecting sound in an HT is bad, I think. Presumably there's some reason every dedicated theater I've seen has carpet! 
I'd think about going with a dark brown / red color scheme - including the ceiling. I've got very dark brown in my HT, and it's still totally livable - I hang out with my baby down there, talk with friends, whatever.
