I have an Electrohome ECP Mystery model. I have no idea what model it is. its either a 2100 or a 3xxx or a 4xxx. when i tried to power it up, the tubes dont come on. i suspected the HVPS and was right, the HV wasnt even turning on, because a fuse inside blew immediately on start up. ive replace the fuse several times each time with the same results. i even tried a new power supply. oh, they are both the spellman power supply's by the way. the new one didnt work in this projector either, but i knew that one was good because it powered up another ECP 3101 i have. the fuse didnt blow on this one though. i am thinking it could be the power entry module, the LVPS, shorted tubes, or something else in the pj. any suggestions on what step i should take next?

The fuse internal to the HVPS only controls the HVPS and is independent of the rest of the set. it's possible that something is shutting down the HVPS which could be almost any board in the set. supply #1 is bad for sure, so something else is wrong as well in the set with supply #2. are there any error lights on on the back of the set?

no error lights come on on the back of the set, but it did make a weird high pitched whooping noise with the new power supply, so we quickly unplugged it. and that was the last time we had the good power supply in it, we didnt want to risk damaging it.

Tough call. The squeal could mean a cracked tube which blew the original HVPS maybe, and is causing arcing to sound like a squeal, I've seen that with those smaller tubes. Could be HV arcing almost anywhere in the set, or maybe an unrelated short somewhere in the set causing the LVPS to overload.

i have another ECP 3101 up and running, so its not that big a deal, but it would be nice because the mystery model had the 07-MS tubes instead of the SD-187's. i'll probably look into getting some replacement parts eventually to see what went wrong. where do you think i should start?

Most of the parts will swap between those two sets. Worst case, pull the 07MS tubes and put them into the working set.

yea, i think i might try that, i'm just afraid of wrecking the only good power supply i have if the tubes are broken.

If run for long enough, yes. A cracked tube acts as a dead short to a HVPS.
