my first projector was a 1272. Now there was a unit that was "bombproof, simple, easily repairable, and good parts availability"! What parts are known for failing on the G70?

Kiev,
The DC board seems to be a big one. From what I can tell is it is not a matter of if but when it goes. I have a G70 here with a bad DC board. Curt says he can repair them and modify them to last. I would consider it, but these tubes are not that good so it will probably be parted.

Hmm. and to think the preceding 12xx series units are such tanks. I guess all that new technology comes at a price.

Eric is right. The STK chips on the DC board are the biggest problem with G70's, but still not that big of problem. My DC board went bad on my G70. It had 12K hours on in at the time. Prior to that it never had a problem.
Out of 5 years of heavy use (only TV in the house), the G70's I owned experienced only one problem. I think that qualifies as a very dependable PJ. I still have one of them. It will be back in service one of these days.

Well yeah i prefer that but i'm driving a 91 Jag which is none of those things.

In my experience, the B-board , E-board,and DC are top 3 followed by PA and YA/YB.
