|
|
Hello everybody, I'm reading the forum for a moment now and it is time to participate a bit
I've an old sony vph 1031qm at home but it start to fail for some reason I don't know yet.
Symptom:
- It work for 5 to 10 min then it shutdown with a red light under the blue lense.
It is not due to the heat, it run open atm. It may be something with the alim. But when i start it cold (after 12h) it run for 10min with no problem before the shutdown.
Does anybody know how to fix this or how to troubleshoot it?
And I've read that CRT projector can output x-ray, how that can happen? Can it happen on an old unmodified projector? How can i check mine doesn't output x-ray?
Thanks in advance for you help,
Best Regards,
gogou

Unfortunately this is very hard to troubleshoot. The 1031 is now over 20 years old, and your problem could be on almost every board. Usually it is the main power supply that goes bad. While you can try and recap the supply, the main chips that fail on it are long discontinued, which makes many 1031 power supply repairs impossible.
Forget about the Xray concerns, all CRT televisions emit Xrays due to the high voltage used, but it's not high enough to be of any concern.

Yea, I have had mine for over 2 years and have experienced no issues with the radiation coming off of the unit. Although I think I might have dropped a few pounds. What do you think?

@Curt
Thanks you for taking the time to answer my question. Well I'll try to put new cap in the alim and see if it fix anything.
Should I change all caps? Elect, ceram and paper? Or just the elect?
I'm reassured about the x-ray thanks you they are warning paper about x-ray all around the projector that is why i asked.

I would change all of the small value higher voltage ones around those 4 chips. There are also two identical blue (?) ones at about the middle of the board. If it still shuts down, I'd suspect one of the chips is drifting when they get hot, I've seen that happen before as well.

Thanks you ,
I've the board in front of me now, so I'll change all elect one and I'll try to change the small one next to the ships.
Oh and I see what you mean by the "main ship" going bad :/ theses seems old, I'd be better of purchasing a new alim board if I can find one. I'll try to recap it then I hope it will work or I'll have to find a solution to keep them cold.
I suspect the dm-24 here, that one seems to have run hot before. I hope I'll be able to make it work again.
Arg damn electronic.
Now time to buy the caps
