Shocked

So After some posting yesterday about how my BDPs1 is not upgradeable.. Evil or Very Mad

I go on anthems website and i'm browsing. Hmmm the new processor is coming...D2v...Looks good, a local seller, HiFi house is an anthem dealer... i go in to checkout what they have.... i talk to the sales guy, and he sys "we have the new D2v!" Really... can i see it in action? Sure!

Into the theater room i go.... he has the Sony VW70 w/ an anamorphic lens, Comcast hd, Stewart Studiotek 130, curved screen. Nice..

So we turn to ESPN HD. Womens Basketball is on , it looks Flawless, no screen door, no motion artifacts, nada!

He fires up Xmen2 or 3 on BR.... Great! Not as deep blacklevels, but the fleshtones were good, color was nice, It was DAMNED IMPRESSIVE!

And the Anthem? $7,500.00 retail Crying or Very sad

In another thread i'll talk about how in the next room they had a pair of Wilson Alexandria's w/ Krell mono's and Transparent audio cables, set up and calibrated by Dave Wilson and co....

I heard them playing Neil Young on Vinyl..... Shocked Very Happy Shocked

Re: The Athem D2V room:

What kind of room treatment? What about the audio side (speakers/amps)? Had they used the ARC (Automatic Room Correction) feature in the D2V? How'd it sound?

Kal

Not a lot of room treatment, sound traps in corners, wall treatments. Speakers were Sonus Faber Amati anniversario.
Anthem Amps as well. Pair of Rel Subs

Dont know if they used the ARC but it sounded very good. Natural and open. The surround processing was seamless. You didnt really notice any tricks. On X-men it was very well done.

The subs were nice and tight not overwhelming. I didnt do any critical listening for that room, i was more interesten in the video processing. Maybe i'll take another trip and give a listen.

I guess I'll mention the Wilson setup now.

So as i said, I went to Look at the Anthem Stuff, and while i'm watching X-men, i start hearing Neil Young "Old Man" coming from the room next door. So when im done, i wander into the next room and ..... WOW

Wilson Alexandria's , Krell Monoblocs, Transparent Audio Cable, Arcam Audio processor.

so i'm listening, its Beautiful, very open, the imaging is perfect , it sounds like Neil and the band are in the room. Then i glance over to the stack...a turntable?....Neil young is playing on Vinyl!?!?!?!?

Yup! I dont remember the manufacture,( I'll check next time) but it was the Neil Young greatest hits on Vinyl!

It sounded perfect!

Say what you want about high dollar audio...when it's done right its really a thing to behold!

I don't have a super high end hifi system but when my buddy brings over her Rega turntable and put on some vinyl it sounds awesome. My old roommate was floored when he realized what we were listening to wasn't a CD but vinyl.

I sold a lot of Rega Tables. They give great Bang vs Buck. Rega table w/ Grado cartridge and stylus. A record cleaner...you're set for good times.

This steup was OFF THE CHAIN good!

What kind of processing is a thing like that going to do? Most of us spend dozens (hundreds?) of hours getting our projectors to match the input as faithfully as possible. Aside from fixing deficiencies in the output method (eg, gamma) I don't see what a processor will do for HD material (god knows it won't have any effect on screen door!), much less what could justify a $7.5k pricetag...

That's true but...

1. Be careful of warped records. Many albums have been sitting under a pile of God knows what for a decade. Subject to blazing heat and freezing cold. Warpage is a common thing.

2. Get a good record vacuum cleaner and clean 'em good BEFORE you play them even once. nothing kills a good stylus and even the album like grinding dust in.

other than that ...Enjoy! And BTW if you come across a Vintage original pressing of David Bowie "Young Americans" with liner notes.... IT'S MINE!!!!!!!
Thumbs Up
