Hello,
I have had a Xtra for about a year(got it for free!!!) and finally got around to setting it up this week. The problem is when I connect a source the red tube does not light. When I hit display it will show the text just fine. I switched the red and green cables and there is no difference.Sometimes it will come on and then just go out. I have been reading up and would like to swap the CRT socket from the blue tube to see if that is the problem. I was wondering if there is a step by step guide and what it is I have to do and how difficult it is.

I dont mind taking my time as this hobby demands a lot of it. Please let me know if you have any advice or pictures to complete the task. Thanks!

If the red is showing text fine then i doubt it is the neck board. Does it also show ok with an internal test pattern? which red and green cables did you swap? The input cables?

thanks for the reply. it was the crt socket from the red tube. After I switched it to the green tube, the green tube exhibited the same symptoms and the red was bright as the green tube used to be. Looks like I need Curt's magic or a replacement red crt socket. Im not sure how to proceed but if you read this Curt let me know! Thanks!

the green just shows the text when i hit display on the remote. when i connected a source it went completely out like the red used to. it would flicker when i pressed the G button on the remote.

If it shows text then the neckboard (crt socket) is fine.

Sounds like a bad connection from the Video-Out board to the Gain board - something like that anyway.
