Superb eye !

Static images burned into tubes make them worthless.

This is a $500. machine.

That looks more like the Audi Quattro symbol to me though...

Yep, its audi.

So, the local Audi dealership has a pj running in the showroom, 14 hours a day, one day it spot burns the tubes and goes out...several months later after the bulb projector has been put in its place, an enterprising salesman lugs it home and finds this forum as the first hit in his research on how much he'll be able to pull out of his freebee ?

Hi guys,

Actually it's not an stealth advertising.

I just got the pictures from the seller, and wanted to hear what you think is could be worth.
Seller wants ~4000 US Dollar for it, inc shipping to me.

Also I wonder if the wear on the tubes are "bad" or nothing to worry about.
Tubes been runned for ~2000h + stby so if it's been used correctly the tubes should be like new with lots of life left.

Is there anything else that I should ask the seller about ?

Regards
Patrik

Yes,where can you get what he's been smoking? Mr. Green

Seriously though, 4k for something thats worth 500$?I would direct himto this thread and not offer any more than suggested here.
For that kind of money I'd be emailing curt and grabbing a nice 9"er with support and warranty.

From what I see the tubes are BAD.

The static burn of the Audi logo you 'could' put up with if you paid under a grand for the projector.....that's not the issue, the issue is that if the photos are indicating (as suspected) that the 3 lines a few millimeters long in the exact spot on the tube face are indeed a 'deflection burn' then all three tubes are completely useless, as in crap, cannot be used, destroyed, damaged, in need of replacement....the phosphor coating has been burnt off, the projected image will ALWAYS show a large vertical line. All three tubes need to be replaced, at nearly $1200 each.....not too mention what has caused the deflection burn...EVEN if you replaced the tubes, what guaranttee that the problem still exist.

This projector is not worth anything like $4k, it's a $500 parts machine at best.

As suggested, redirect your 'seller' to this thread.

Then I must say it was close, since I were about to make a deal...

I've looked at the tubes (pictures) and thought they looked good, but soon as I tried the color/contrast I saw the AUDI logo.
Where is the "deflection burn" on the tubes, since I've not seen it yet.

Is there a way to make sure that the hardware is OK ?

The seller is a guy from Germany, and I has had more projectors for sale on E-bay before.
This one is not listed and is the second one he has, the other had a almost same serial #

Will check the "tubes" with the color/contrast when I come home, cause I where about to buy the other one before christmas.

Guess I saved myself a fortune here...

Electron-beam sweep can sometimes fail in one direction only... meaning rather than paint a square, the e-beam turns into a laser that etches a line into the phosphor and thereby destroys the tube.

The root cause is always electronic, and would likely repeat with new tubes until the failure is fully and completely repaired. Tubes are expensive... I assume the 'tz' in your name means you are in Germany also?
Regardless, Curt is the person to be speaking to if you want a known good set with warranty and support, shipping to EU notwithstanding.
