Maybe your moter board's SATA controller doens't like the drive or vice versa. How do you have teh SATA controler set in the BIOS? Do you have Raid disabled?

Mine used to do the same thing. AMD chip, 8600gt, ggc-h20l. I did a firmware update and downloaded the newest drivers. It seems to work okay now.

I think Vista has that driver built in from what I remember reading.

This again makes me wonder about the SATA chipset on the mother board. I know with my LG HDDVD/BR combo drive the firwst board I had didn't work with it. I had to use a SATA to USB cable.

Also go into your BIOS and see how the SATA controller is set up. If you aren't comfterable in the BIOS don't change anything! You can make your PC not boot. Just look and exit without saving.

Did you have a SATA plain-ol-DVD drive in there before that worked? If not, maybe try finding a SATA DVD drive, see if it's an interface / mobo problem or a drive problem.
