I just grabbed an 8501LC with moderate green tube wear for a good price. (happy dance)
I'm waiting to get the set in and checked out before I do anything else, but if anyone has a good set of 9" tubes for it, I'm all ears.
In the meantime, I'm studying up all the mods and repairs I can find. If anyone has any tasty tidbits they want to pass along on the 8500 to 9500 upgrade process, I'd sure appreciate it.

Was it the one listed on the bay? Looked like a fine price to me.

Congrats! You'll love the marquee over the sony. Simpler design, easy to upgrade, great image, highest bandwidth video chain and the shortest. Parts still being made, but no bellows, but that is to change soon( shameless plug for my bellow project ) . Check out all my threads in my signature. I am going to get back into the upgrade thread maybe this summer
once i get my theater up and running again and move my 9500LC into the shop for my test bed.
To convert it to a 9" you need a whole set of LC chambers as the 8 inchers are not compatible except the outer most housing and pivot plate/pins. I do have a nice set of 8 inch tubes I probably will part with.
But first before you do any mods look at the LVPS mod in my thread I have it as the first mod as its the most important.
its for making sure the Filament Heater Voltage is not to high, that will kill tubes fast.
But once again congrats and good luck with it.
Also where is your location?

Did you ever get that mess sorted out?

BTW... YOU SUCK!
The mess is still in with Paypal as a dispute. If I don't win, Gary says he'll refund me, if I get the full Paypal amount, then I'll fire some back his way, even though I shouldn't. (he offered a $250 refund, I have a $400 dispute in. Set has a better green tube in it at this point, and is on eBay.

Thanks all.
Yes, this is the one that was on the Bay.
Curt, I'll have to uhh, ahem...get back to you on that "special" green tube you have.
Thanks for the pointers Nash, I'm absolutely checking out the LPVS first thing. First I have to see if anything has been done to the set yet. Fan mods will happen right away and I'll run this one on a table under the 1272 for awhile to make sure all is good before hanging it.
I have a lot of reading to do....

Dan I spoke to the seller and he was a nice guy, but it's 99% likely nothing was ever done. Sounds like he just hauled it home and set it up which is better than some hack job with a soldering Iron anyway. You got a good deal but the bad news is you need new new lenses. The HD10L's won't focus wider than 50 inches. Look for straight HD10's or even better HD10GT17's or HD10F's.

This is my fault. No more than four hours after getting off the phone with me he is buying a new pj. I actually had a line on a 9" pj for you, but this should do. I was going to call you back, but I didn't get out of Coke till 10:30 and I was so pissed that I just went home and chilled. Mini-rant: Have you ever done work for someone and the project turns into a lemon through no fault of your own? I am sure Curt has seen this on some pjs he has sold.
Drag answered my question on the lenses, but are you sure they are 10-Ls? If you want to get into it, then Nash has some 9" tubes that would require some work for retrofit. You could ask him if he is willing to part with them.

There's quite a few other important things I would do before putting in 9 inch tubes.
