--------------------------My standard courtesy eMail sent to seller-------------------------------------

I'm not interested in that projector specifically (I've got a bigger one already.) This is just a courtesy email from a serious CRT projection hobbiest... I'm afraid that 1252 is not worth anywhere near your asking price.
Curt Palme, over in Vancouver, is probably the foremost reseller of CRT projectors and sells all sets with warranties... He's selling 1252s for $450: http://curtpalme.com/CRTforSale_EntryLevel.shtm

A private-party sale with no warranty... you'll be lucky to see $100.

Again, this is just an honest courtesy... I'd hate to see anyone waste months re-listing something at progressively lower prices. If your first inclination is to respond "f&@k off a-hole" (I've had a few of those responses on Craigslist) then feel free to delete and ignore this email.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wonder what the response will be?

Isn't this where you email him and tell him if he'd still had the control pannel cover you'd buy the projectror. Mr. Green

I guess you guys didn't notice that all the manuals are included on a thumb drive. That's worth something. Wink

Can't wait to see if you get a response.

Some people...

You guys might be surprised, as it only takes one suc... ummm buyer. He won't get that, but he may find an idiot thta would give him half. A little over two years ago, I sent the same email to a guy in West Palm who was selling a early 80's coffee table pj with screen. I just wanted the screen. He listed it for around $500. I explained to him that it wasn't worth it. Sure enough, some idiot bought it or was talked into buying it.

Well the Germans don't get out here either, otherwise they wouldn't have offered 11K Euro, for the 812, that some-one here already published would have been available for 6K, as that was the counter offer he had received from the seller. of course those who really get out would have gotten it from Jan directly, as he was asking 5K.

There are uninformed people who are overpaying everyday. Though there are nutters on the seller side aswell. I remember a guy from Limburg who kept posting a Sony 10xx to www.marktplaats.nl, for ridiculous prices (1500 Euro), and got rude when people pointed this out to him, it went on for at least two years.

I sold a 1252Q for $400 on CL and a 1271Q for $250 to a friend last year. It's easy to say a 12xx is only worth $100 when we know where to look and find much better CRT projectors going for only several hundred dollars on the used market. That said, CRT projectors aren't the easiest to find anymore, so if someone is serious about getting a 100" screen for their man cave and there's a CRT projector that's local and in good shape, I can see how it would be worth more than $100. For the $250 set I sold, I did throw in setup as well, though I got some beer and pizza out of the setup deal. The guy I sold it to couldn't be happier with his 100" TV screen. I also got him a HDfury and cables at cost and he's feeding it 1080i from his PS3. It looks pretty decent for money! Now his friends are wondering how they can get one! Maybe I can offload some of my 1031Qs to them or set them up with my old D50! Cha-ching! For the right buyer, in my case, 20-30 year old single guys who like toys but aren't ones to go it alone as far as setup, a CRT projector with basic setup is worth a few hundred dollars or more considering the alternative -- an expensive new HDTV or a big and bulky CRT RPTV.

I agree, Mike. A 12xx is still worth a lot more than $100 to the right buyer... I mean, what are the alternatives to watch front projection at anywhere near that price? Answer: There aren't any.

I think a fair price for a nice 12xx is still in the $200-300 range. I sold my minty 1271 last spring for $300 with remote and mount, and I think I could sell one like it every month or two around here for that price. Again, what are your other options for front projection at or below that price?

Still, $300 isn't $5500. Wink

I'd pay a couple hundred dollars for a 12xx, if it were in good working condition with minty-ish tubes. They throw a much better picture than a digital that costs 2-3 times that (possibly more!). Still $5500 is a little bit unreasonable. But the right customer is born every minute or so they say.

A Sony 1031q was actually sold for about $360 here recently.. I made an offer of about $100 for it. Got a rude-ish reply. Some other guy was trying to sell an ancient 480i capable Seleco for around $3000.

quite true, i've noticed the supply of used machines from the surplus market is maybe half of what it was a year or 2 ago. A clean 12XX is easilly worth a few hundred bucks IMO, it's the most reliable PJ Sony ever made

yeah but at that point your not just selling a PJ,your offering a service and hooking these guys up to plug and play level. That's worth a lot more than even $250. I bust my as all week, my Saturday doesn't come cheap Surprised

That 1271Q was just collecting dust in my basement so I had to off it. He certainly did get the better of the deal, yet he's a friend and it's fun to spread the CRT sickness! Though I did tell him that if he ever moves it that it will need to be reconverged and that I only charge $200 an hour for that. Twisted Evil

Hey, i just realized that my 1251q's control cover still works! I have always thought it was broken. But last night I got to looking at it and realized that it isn't. I clipped it into place, it pivits and even "clicks" into place. So now my controls are covered! woot woot! Smile Anyone want to buy a 1251 for $5000? Smile

I just saw a Sim listed for $2500 or something like that. Yes, that is what I want a 7" pj with very little parts support for the price of a brand new digital.
