First off, I'm not selling this, I just came across it and thought it was weird... so if you want to remove it, Curt, go right ahead. (Though it's not even necessarily a working unit.)

Has anyone seen a setup like that before? a Marquee 8500 in a big screen tv case? What was this for, HDTV resolutions well before HDTVs existed? Interesting to see, at least.. maybe someone can pick it up and see if it's working.

Yup. a retro setup. Short throw lenses to allow them to focus on a screen that close. Barco made a similar unit. If you want to use it on a regular screen you need to change the lenses.

Interesting. Bet it looks pretty darned sharp when focused, eh? The screen seems deceptively small in the pic, too, since it's apparently almost 80" tall.

Wow, that thing is huge. It would just barely fit under a normal residential 7' door opening. If it's really 58" deep, you'd essentially need a double (French) 3' door set to get it through. Damn it makes a 65" Mitsubishi RPTV look small.

And I'll bet even the mitsi 1080p doesn't look as good as that thing when it is properly setup!

I don't if it applies to this one, but the Barco versions allow you to swing in the projector so they can go through a "normal" door.

I may send a friend over there for it... I could use the Ultra and he could use the chassis at his gun club.
That's the Retro IV cabinet... I just destroyed the one I got from govliq wrapped around my 9500. Unfortunately, it was not usable as the screen was scratched somethin fierce.

The 9501 in mine had HD10Ls. I don't know about an 8500... if its' an LC Ultra it too can use the 10Ls, with slightly different results.

I would be pretty surprised if there were some previously un-heard of "short throw" lenses on that 8500 Ultra inside the Retro cabinet. The Retro cabinets had a slide out mirror that increased the effective throw distance, there would be no need for any different lenses on an air coupled Marquee than the stock HD-8 RevB's. The only reason there would have been HD10L's on a 9500LC inside a retro is because they were available, had a higher focus ability(12 lppm) compared to the plain HD10(10 lppm)they were *optimized* for the screen size. There is no comparable air coupled lens available.

sorry guys - I assumed that the lenses would be some sort of special sort throw variety because I believe that's the way that the Barco retro setups work. In other words, on the Barco setups you can't pull out the projector and expect to use it as a regular ceiling projector.

But then, given how things are going today I probably got that wrong too... best to just ignore me. Smile

good job guys, the poor seller must have been so hammered with e-mails he had to pull the add.Laughing
if it was an LC then almost certain HD10Ls. I have also pulled a bunch of standard 8500's out of these cabinets and they were all normal plastic HD8's
