Just picked up Bug's Life @ Costco for exactly the same price as Amazon. I paid $1.80 extra in sales tax I guess, but did get instant gratification!

I can remember being floored when viewing the Bug's Life DVD for the first time, will have to put this one in my cart!
Monsters Inc should be at least equally impressive I'd imagine being a later release and equally as colorful

Yep. I don't often post about the movies I watch but this one really took my breath away. It could also be because I've watched the NTSC special edition DVD probably 10-15 times and know it very well, including all the mistakes/glitches. (They even fixed a framing error that happens early on when Flick flattens the Princess with a stalk of grass - the image used to stretch momentarily in the vertical direction - that's now gone).
I'm constantly impressed with Blu-ray - it's not just extra resolution. It's extra contrast ratio, wider colour gamut (better colours), less noise, no posterization, no macroblocking, etc, etc, etc. In the case of this movie they've really worked the contrast. Before it often appeared blown out/overly bright. Now the contrast range runs from dark to very bright without appearing overly washed out.
It's rare when an older movie re-released on Blu-ray has me grining from ear to ear but this is one of those cases.
If you go end up getting it let me know what you think! Your G70's pretty much identical to my projector. EDIT: You bought it - cool! Post back what you think.

Amazon currently has a "Best Value" deal with $10 off a combo pre-order for Monsters, Inc. and UP! $37.49 for both, with optional free delivery. (releasing Nov10). That's under $19 per movie!
Just go to the page for either one, like UP!, and page down once to the Best Value section. There's an Add Both to Cart button there. These are both 4-disc editions.

This is pretty interesting note from the director of Monsters Inc.:
"Well, my idea was that what it was about was about a 30 year old man who is like an accountant or something, he hates his job, and one day he gets a book with some drawings in it that he did when he was a kid from his mom, and he doesn't think anything of it and he puts it on the shelf and that night, monsters show up. And nobody else can see them. He thinks he's starting to go crazy, they follow him to his job, and on his dates, and all this- and it turns out these monsters are fears that he never dealt with as a kid. And each one of them represents a different kind of fear. As he conquers those fears, the guys who he slowly becomes kind of friends with- they disappear as he conquers those fears. It's this bittersweet kinda ending where they go away, and so not much of that stayed
[...]
it sounds better as a pitch than it did at the time- anyway. "
