Just couldn't pass it up at a give-away price.
1100 hours on it.
Tubes look MINT!
Has both remotes.
Huge Draper Targa motorized screen and remote.
Ceiling mount and a Faroudja LD200 (big deal) and a bunch of cables.

I will be passing my 5000 hour Sony D50 on to someone else.

I have a lot of reading to do before I start setup.

How do I tell exactly which NEC it is? (plus, extra)
The front badge says "Runco IDP 980 Super IDTV II" if it was an ultra would it say so there?

Does it have the point convergence board, how do I tell?

Guess I'm going to need a scaler or something with component inputs....

My guess is that it's a 6PG Xtra...a fine projector!

No, it's probably a PLus. THe 980 Ultra was the Xtra model.

An addiction is good, look out for my upcoming post on Friday...Wink

No...it's anXtra...the Ultra was the 9 and the regular is the 6. So, it's a 6PG Xtra. You will know because of the range of geometric adjustments...as well as the model # of the green tube.

ANd perhaps an extra fan in the back of the chassis, but I'm not certain of that.

The Plus will have a fan on top of the card cage at the very rear.

The Xtra has that fan jammed down near the blue neckboard.

Somewhat confusing but I'll see what fans it has and fire it up today and see if it has point convergence, if it does than it's the NEC Xtra right? No point and it's the plus. Oh, but I guess point could have be added to the plus as an option... I don't know what it is.

I have it on a short table under the ceiling mounted D50, my first stack! My plan is to set it up in position on the ground and get comfortable with the controls and tweaking. Then when it's dialed in I'll take the Sony down and ceiling mount the Runco in it's place.

point board is optional on all NEC PG6xxx PJs, and stock on all NEC PG9xxx PJs. But yours is no NEC, but a Runco, so it may be different there.

I thought the Runco was the same they just painted the case a nifty black.

I don't know how to ID the tubes. It has HD-144 lenses.

No fan on top but it does have the fan down by the blue neckboard.

Well I got the initial setup done following the great instructions here. I'm sure I will be doing it a few more times to get it spot on. Much more to it than the Sony D50.

I enabled point in the options menu but point doesn't show in the convergence menu so I guess it is a PG6+ not an extra. The extras had the point board right? When I took the lenses off I did see a slight wear on the green tube, no big deal. I didn't see it looking through the lenses with a light.

Shows a lovely picture through the ancient doubler at 480p, even though my first setup attempt is less than stellar. Got to get component HD to it and try 1080i. Miss the component input the Sony had.

6's didn't have point...9's did. Point is basically unnecessary with an NEC... unless you have some strange geometric issues.

The geometry did fall right into place once I learned how to push the right buttons.

I'll have to read again about the differences between the PG6+ and PG6 Extra, I thought it was the point board.
And the difference in Runco was the IDP980 was like a PG6+ and the IDP980ultra was like a PG9?

No, they are all P16s.

Green is P16LJE08HKA (same as G70 and can be used in XG).

Red and Blue are P16LJE09RJA and P16LJE09BMB and have a shorter neck and will only work in an Xtra.
