the Sony 722/1020, but that's a crappy video only set.

For a data grade that's reliable, then I'd say the DWIN 700 or the Barco 70X series. I'd take the DWIN over the BArco due to reliability issues. I've got a zillion parts for the DWIN even though they are out of business now.

For lack of height, the Ampro 2000 or 2300 have them all beat at 10" in height, but they are pretty unreliable at this point, unless you happen to find a late model 2000, also called the 2600..

THe 1030 and 1031 will do 480p, the 1031, 1080i as well, but they also are unreliable at this point, so I didn't list them.

SIM2/Selecos (350-500) models are quite small too.

In terms of CRT yeah, indeed that may be the case, but i would have to say the Mitsubishi 3LCD i had blew the 2 Epsons i now have out of the water, and it was a fair bit smaller.

If a moderately portable CRT projector is desired though, the Sony 10XX series are good for it, only takes about 20 minutes to have one set up on a wall and the picture is well worth the extra 18 minutes ontop of what youd spend setting up a digital. No portable digital will touch 15,000:1 contrast and the massive amount of lumens dont make up for it.

He's coming from a 480i Advent projector so anything he gets will be a huge step up.

To the original poster: Why small? Even the smallest CRT projectors are "big" when compared to digitals. You get get a lot better quality if you get something just slightly bigger.

You asked where to get them. Ahhhh... how about www.curtpalme.com? Wink

Hey now! The 1031Q puts out a great image if you're cool with sticking to 480p, 540p, or 1080i! I still have the two I bought several years ago, collecting dust in my basement. Their value is so little right now considering all the more capable CRT projectors that can do high def so I don't see me selling them. I've since moved on to high def CRT projection, but a couple of years ago I sold a 1030Q to someone. In setting it up to demo it, projecting a DVD at 480p, I was still impressed with what a CRT projector from 1986 is capable of! I'd take a 1031Q over any 800x600 digital projector, that's for sure! They are quite small, lightweight, and pretty quiet. I've even run mine with the fans disabled before! I wish my 1292Q was as quiet as my 1031Q!

The bummer with the 1031Q and some others its age is that if you feed it more than 36KHz horiz. signal you'll have yourself a non-RoHS complient boat anchor, or if you happen to be in China, simply a boat anchor. I speak from experience there! Though I did get it repaired. I've never run mine at 1080i, but I kinda want to try it now just for kicks. Maybe I'll try swapping out my D50 with my 1031Q and see what 1080i looks on it fed from a PS3 with HDfury. Course, gotta be careful to tell the PS3 that the display cannot do 1080p or 720p! They also aren't too bright so you have to stick with a smaller screen. Still, when you're projecting DVD, bigger means a softer picture anyway, so better to stick with a smaller screen. The 1031Q also requires a RGBS BNC to DB25 adapter cable or a custom-made breakout cable. If you ever come across one for sale, that cable is important to get with it.

Again that portable Philips from the mid to late 1960s I mentioned earlier would sure be a contender for smallest production unit. One of these was sold last year on ebay.de for a few euro's over E 650,-.

The DWIN can do 1080 and 720p, it's small...it's quiet, and it's as sharp as I've seen from an ES focus set. Throw on HD145's and enjoy the movies!

What about that bizarre single-tube-color sony thing? They even had one with a beta player in it, for the ultimate combination in doomed technology...

I gave one to my G/F. She said it was prettier than the Ampro or the 1252. I'd like to use the top half of a D50 case as a hood scoop Mr. Green

Sony $hittimagic!

There's actually one on fleaBay with Buy it Now for $120 + $46 shipping. Unfortunately, that price is about $200 too high. Laughing
