Here is a shot of the tubes in the 9PG XTRA we have coming in:

Mark, im told youre the foremost expert on NEC projectors, my mate bought this one early in the week for abit of a song, apparently works quite fine.

Besides new or better tubes, what else would you recomend we do with this? (case is abit rough, but itll probably get a lick of satin paint at some stage)

Are the HD-144/145 (we dont know yet which it has) any better than the HD-6 we have on the plain PGs? If so, in what way? (ive searched for this info but havent been able to find a clean cut answer)

Do you have anything sitting there for these?

Thanks in advance mate Thumbs Up

...would you like jam or honey on your toast....

Those tubes are pretty bad, not only is the wear significant but it's also way too small and off center.

That projector was setup WAY too far back for quite some time.

Better tubes would be your first (and only) priority.

It looks like they didn't do the tow in on the red and blue. Maybe just stressed the electroics to make it line up.

Buy some Vegemite...

If you do manage to find tubes, and sorry I have none for an Xtra, the mods I would make are:

- Replace big 47uf cap in front middle of deflection board with the proper 470uf cap. Fixes the Keystone Buzz.

- Add a thin fan to the deflection heatsink.

- Add an additional heatsink and fan on the baseplate, opposite the C and F drives.

Thanks mate, apreciate the help Smile

P.S. Do you have any parts for any NECs?

That is what i thought too mate yeah, seems rather unusual that the red is worse than the blue, but we dont have it here yet, so that may even be the angle of the pic making the blue look as good as it does (when compared to the others ofcourse!!)

Id say it would have to be a combination of the raster centering rings on the back end of the deflector yoke as well as electronic movement to get it that far over, we will probably be able to tell when we get it here and hook into it.

Does anyone know if these tubes in the Xtras can be rebuilt?

I have a full set of spares for an XG-xxx1 generation chassis. And a set of 300hour XG tubes. Mine, bugger off.

I gave all my Xtra parts to a friend, and a whole Xtra to another friend. No more Xtra or PG bits at all.

Aaron Rigg has a set of STKs for PGs for sale. Azzad on this forum (definitely Azzad on AVSforum).

Oh, wait, I do have a set of HD-144 lenses kicking around. No real use for them, they came off my XG when I converted it to LC. If you need them, make an offer.

Ahh, well now I have a conflict of interest...but...

THEY SPANK THE HD-6'S FROM HERE TO NEXT WEEK.

But the 9PG Xtra will have HD-145's with are similar in performance to 144s, just with a slightly longer throw.
