|
|
Hi,
Sorry for bad english.
This is a projector i had for free, i try too fix some problems on it.
I have a FE error on my NEC 9PGXtra, i can't find it on error code list ?
I have too the blue crt way too high in luminosity, i can see raster. I tried AKB on/off, white balance settings, he's always too bright. I don't know if the G2 is not correctly set, i haven't tried to set the trimpot, i'm looking for a calibration procedure(i'm electronician with equipment)?. I'll swap CRT sockets to see if the problem move from the blue to another tube.
Thanks,
Best Regards

Probably the Video amplifier IC on the neckboard is bad. It's common on the Xtra.

I would pull off the bluie CRT socket, making sure the back of it doesn't touch the chassis. See if the R and G tubes power up normally.
I have also had shorts in the tube itself cause the neck board to blow, but as Tinman says, usually it's the neck board itself. I can repair it or sell you a spare.
Cheers!
Curt

Hi Tinman, Curt,
Thanks for your answer.
I've done some additional test, and the problem look more complex.
In any case the projector startup and don't go to standby, i forgot to tell you before.
I tried to set a new entry with a standard 1024*768*32/60Hz. Everything ok without AKB, colorimetry and white bal(50/50) is fine with test pattern from the pc.
But when i set AKB ON, the picture is blue in mid and low grey scale, full white is still white.
Same problem if i try to adujst brightness/contrast, as soon as the bright osd appear on screen, the picture turn to blue.
But the error is still there..
No possible to easily swap the neckboards because the wires are too short.
I removed the blue neck board and the projector startup too.

Hello,
One problem is fixed
I have a second 9PGXtra with toasted tubes, for spare.
I swapped Gain CTL board first, nothing changed.
I swapped Video Out board and the blue problem is not present anymore when i set the brightness or set AKB on.
I still have the FE error code but it seems it comes from a totaly different problem. I continue to swap boards to identify it..
Regards,
Rémy

Is the projector set to stand-alone mode in the menus? It may be expecting the ISS switcher connected.

FE means the Video Decoder is missing. It's in the manual, page 4-2-1.
Don't worry about it, it doesn't matter.

Odd... I never got that error on my Xtra. Huh... It DID complain when not set to stand alone.
But regardless.... it doesn't matter.

Well, did it have a Video Decoder board installed?

Hello Tinman, Mark_A_W,
Sorry for the delay.
Yes the projector is in stand alone mode.
I tried to send a video composite PAL signal into the video in, i created a new signal entry, and nothing happend, so i suppose there's no video decoder card in the projector, or the video decoder card is defect. Where is usualy located this card in a Xtra ? I have an empty slot in the back of projector close to GAIN and VIDEO Output pwb..
I don't need video decoder board, i use htpc.
Best Regards,
Rémy

That empty slot is for the "optional" video decoder board. You can ignore it.
